When I was a kid growing up in New York City in the 1980s, a new television star was making waves. Oprah Winfrey had burst onto the scene with her day time television talk show but much of the focus was on her weight.
Oprah spent the next few decades openly sharing her struggles with weight loss as the world watched her go from diet to diet, going a few sizes down and then up again. Her body was being scrutinised all the time.

00:00Oprah Winfrey's admission that she's taking a weight loss drug has led to a fresh debate
00:09about body positivity and how we look at weight loss in the 21st century.
00:13Her struggles have been very public over the decades.
00:16But now it seems to have become a bit of a problem for people to admit that they might
00:21be taking the help of drugs like Ozempic in order to lose weight.
00:26My point is that it seems to be a no-win situation.
00:30Those people who are obese and overweight are often shamed into not showing enough willpower
00:37or not working hard enough in order to shed those kilos.
00:40And now those people who admit to taking drugs like Ozempic to help them reach their target
00:45weight are also being shamed for apparently cheating and taking a shortcut.
00:49I don't think that's fair.
00:51I don't understand why we can't live and let live.
00:53I do believe that obesity is bad for your health.
00:56That's what all doctors tell us.
00:58You are prone to diabetes, hypertension, heart attacks, etc.
01:01So being at a lower weight or at a healthier weight is important for all of us.
01:06The question is, what is that healthy weight?
01:08We don't all have to be a size 2 or a size 0 or a size 4 in order to be healthy.
01:14Some of us can be bigger, some of us can be smaller.
01:16But you know, it really is as per a different individual's requirements, needs, what their
01:22bodies are like, etc.
01:24So this judgment around weight loss, this judgment around what the ideal weight is,
01:29is actually quite frustrating.
01:31And the fact is that if there are people who can lose weight with diet and exercise, that's
01:37great.
01:38I know I try to do it that way.
01:39But if there are people who feel that they need to turn to drugs like Ozempic to do the
01:43same thing, well, good for them.
01:45That's probably what's working for them.
01:47So therefore, just stop the judgment, do what you have to do to be healthy and stop judging
01:52others in the process.
