00:00For the first time in US history, a sitting or former President of the United States is
00:08facing a criminal trial.
00:10The trial of Donald Trump in what is called the Hush Money case has finally begun in New
00:16York this week, with the jury selection having been completed.
00:20In this particular case, Trump has been accused of paying an adult film star named Stormy
00:24Daniels over $130,000 several years ago in order for her not to speak up about an affair
00:31that she alleged that they had.
00:33Trump denies the allegations, and many experts say that of all the criminal cases that he
00:38faces, this is probably the least worrisome for him.
00:44It will attract a jail term of four years if he is convicted, but they expect the actual
00:50punishment to be much less if he is indeed found guilty.
00:54Now, until now, Trump has been painting himself as a martyr.
00:57He's been essentially appealing to his core Republican base and saying that he's the victim
01:02of a political witch hunt.
01:04And polls are increasingly beginning to show that it is only his hardcore support base
01:09within the Republican Party that is buying that argument.
01:13More moderate Republicans seem to be on the fence when it comes to Donald Trump and have
01:18indicated in poll after poll that they may not be so thrilled to support him if he is
01:23actually convicted of a felony.
01:26What should worry Trump is that a new poll that's just been done by Reuters shows that
01:30more than 60% of registered voters in the United States say that they will not vote
01:36for Trump if he's actually convicted in a criminal case.
01:40And new polls also show a much, much closer race now between him and Joe Biden.
01:46Trump has blustered and bombasted his way all these years through all the scandals that
01:51he has faced through his impeachment and through these criminal charges that he is currently
01:56facing as well.
01:58But finally, not just with this case, but with other cases as well, it looks like his
02:03past may finally catch up and the American people need to wake up and ensure that they
02:09don't elect him again.
