We are just about a year away from the US presidential election and the Democrats have many reasons to be uneasy. New polls show that President Joe Biden is trailing Donald Trump. One poll by Harvard CAPS-Harris found that 44 per cent of respondents said they would vote for Trump, while 40 per cent said they would back Biden. And 15 per cent said they were unsure or didn’t know. The CBS News poll with YouGov shows Trump ahead of Biden by 1 point — 50 to 49 per cent.

00:00We are about a year or so from the US presidential election, an election that the whole world
00:08is closely watching. And increasingly, Democrats are beginning to ask, is Joe Biden really
00:15their best bet? This is simply because latest polls show that President Biden's approval
00:21ratings are not as high as they should be. In fact, they're pretty low. On top of that,
00:27in a head-to-head contest with Donald Trump, he's actually trailing Donald Trump at the
00:31moment as far as latest polls are concerned. This primarily has to do with his handling
00:36of the economy and with his own age and health. There are many Americans who today wonder
00:42whether President Biden, who is currently 80 years old, will really be able to take
00:47on four more years in the White House and the kind of exhausting schedule that it demands.
00:53At the same time, the age difference between him and Trump really isn't much, just three
00:58years or so. And yet Trump is seen as someone who, at least amongst these surveys, appears
01:04to be tougher on issues that Americans care about. So the question that the Democrats
01:10are now asking is that while their leadership may be backing Joe Biden all the way, their
01:15grassroots carder perhaps not so much. They're wary about how this US presidential contest
01:21will play out, although Biden's supporters say that Obama too had low approval ratings
01:26in the year before the election and there's still a long way to go. We'll have to see how it plays out.
