00:00Many Filipinos have won this medal of the Philippine Men's Curling Team in Carbine China.
00:07But how did this sport start?
00:10Let's find out from our teammate, John Noel Arante.
00:18The Philippines is a tropical country.
00:21So who would have thought that Filipinos would win a winter sport like curling?
00:27That's why some Filipinos are super proud and surprised that the Philippine Men's Curling Team made it to the 9 Asian Games.
00:35Very good because it's a big challenge for Filipinos, especially in the Winter Olympics or Winter Games.
00:43Because we don't have that kind of weather.
00:48So it's a very big challenge, so congratulations.
00:51I'm very proud because Filipinos are showing that they are good in different sports.
01:00Especially in games like this, we're not used to it because we haven't experienced that kind of environment.
01:08I was amazed because there's really no snow in the Philippines.
01:12Curling is considered the oldest team sport in the world.
01:16It started in the 16th century.
01:18Curling became popular in the 18th century and was often played in Scotland.
01:23In 1924, curling became an Olympic sport and became part of the Olympic Winter Games.
01:30In the Philippines, natural sports were introduced in 2000.
01:35The Philippine Curling Association was established in 2006 to expand the knowledge of Filipinos in natural winter sports.
01:44Now, curling has become a way for Filipinos to get their first medal in the Asian Winter Games.
01:53A country has proven that the climate is only warm and cold
01:57that they can compete with other powerhouse teams like China and South Korea.
02:04So the question is, what's next for the Philippine Curling scene?
02:09The awareness about curling is increasing.
02:12We will be organizing a learn-to-curl camp for Filipinos who are based in the Philippines and in Asia.
02:18Curling Pilipinas will fund the ice time, will fund the coaches and the translators.
02:25Jan Noel Arante, for the Filipino athlete, for the new Philippines.
