Officers "shaken up" after Mayfield police shooting

00:00Police attended at 4.10pm yesterday afternoon, soon thereafter they approached the unit where they were attacked with a man which I would describe as being an ornamental bladed shovel.
00:14They were attacked by this man with a shovel. They discharged a taser which was ineffective and then they fired shots wounding him, firing shots through his centre body mass.
00:29He was wounded and taken to hospital. He's still in hospital in a critical but stable condition.
00:34He is in a serious condition, critical condition but stable in John Hunter Hospital.
00:41Can I say that both those officers are shaken up and that's the issue. These things do occur in segments.
00:48They are very lucky that they are not seriously injured. They have acted in accordance with their training but they are shaken up and it will have an effect on them.
