Jumeirah Group’s Dubai Turtle Rehabilitation Project released 30 sea turtles back into their natural habitat today, in celebration of World Sea Turtle Day on 16 June. The animals had been cleared for release following an extensive recovery period, accompanied by regular check-ups, monitoring of progress and medical care where necessary. The Hawksbill, Green, and Loggerhead turtles were released from Jumeirah Al Naseem in Dubai, in the presence of media representatives and in-house guests, and under the watchful eye of the project experts.

00:00Today, we're going to release 30 turtles that are just now perfectly ready to go.
00:10We have an adult female loggerhead, she's in here in the middle box, she's 65 kilograms
00:19and she had a intestine infection from eating plastics and she's been with us over a year.
00:27And we have two green turtles, one of them is there, it's a female as well, she's around
00:3354 kilograms and she had a similar issue and was brought to us from Jorfakan.
00:43And we have another green turtle on the other box, it's approximately I would say 17 years
00:50old or so and had an infection in the carapace.
00:56In addition, we have 27 hawksbill turtles in the boxes here that we are going to release
01:00today.
01:01They are small animals from one to three years old.
01:04Turtles take almost two decades or more actually to reach sexual maturity and most, if not
01:10all of these small turtles were cold stunned because of the cold winter months.
01:18And please, if you find the injured or sick sea turtle, just put it in a bucket with fresh
01:26water or put a wet towel on them, give us a call and bring it to us and do at no time
01:32please try to remove the barnacles because the barnacles are cemented to the turtle.
01:36If you try to pull them off, you will damage the turtle, it will get an infection and get
01:40worse.
01:42So just, I would like to also thank Jumail al-Nasim for hosting the event and with that
01:49on the count of from 10 to 0, we're going to start the release of the animals.
