00:00There is a common misconception to the rest of the world that the UAE is hot all year
00:05round.
00:06Don't get us wrong, the UAE is generally a warm and balmy destination with perfect
00:12beach weather.
00:15But for a few weeks during the winter months, it gets quite cold.
00:21Bringing icy rains and the occasional light blankets of snow, some of these winters have
00:26remained lodged in the cultural memory.
00:30One of these memories took place last year this exact week, as UAE residents enjoyed
00:35snow in Jebel Jais.
00:38Another momentous weather day was the infamous heavy downpour of November 2018, which caused
00:44the roads to flood and the schools to close down.
00:49And who can forget the hailstorm reported in Ras Al Khaimah in November 2019 as the
00:54country underwent a bout of unstable weather.
00:59However, none of these times were the coldest winter in the UAE.
01:06Statistics by the UAE's National Center of Meteorology confirmed that the lowest drop
01:11in temperature was in Jebel Jais circa February 2017, where the temperature dropped to minus
01:175.7 degrees Celsius.
