00:00When you said Romero and Lampard are both training, can you explain to the layman at least why they can train but they can't?
00:30I keep saying that you blokes could have joined in our training. I mean that seriously. We've literally been walking around just going through tactical stuff.
00:39For them to join in that serves no purpose because they get nothing out of it physically because our guys have just been recovering.
00:46It's just now with the last three days and the hope is that we can drop now with training properly is Mickey and Romero over the next couple of weeks to really then be part of our team training totally.
01:00So call it modified, call it what you want. But a lot of their work now is individual training.
01:07What I'm saying is they're not bedridden, they're not sitting on just getting treatment. They're out there running.
01:12They're doing significant training but it's just not with the team always.
01:16Is it fair to hope that they'll be fit for that in the future?
01:22Yeah with sort of a bit of, for want of a better word, some momentum in terms of them getting some good training weeks.
01:34If it's not then it won't be much after that. We've got an international break so it won't be much after that.
01:40I'd include Dom in that as well. He's in a similar sort of boat where I think once the boys get the green light they're going to push pretty hard.
01:51But some of it's like matters. Matters should have been out probably another two weeks.
01:56I think Vicario we had scheduled in for the middle of March so it just depends on the players.
02:00But I'd certainly expect Mickey and Cootie to be around the mark at that time.
02:08Do you feel like the season starts again?
02:11I wish it did mate but it doesn't. We're still in the same position.
02:17We're still kind of dealing with certain things but I think your point is well, I think I said after the Villa game,
02:23is it a chance for a little bit of a reset?
02:25I think there's a natural physical break for us which I think allows us to think about okay,
02:32from here onwards there's an opportunity now to maybe change the course of our season.
02:40But you can't ignore what's happened and you're still carrying remnants of that.
02:43It's not like that's not in our heads, the fact that the disappointment of our league season,
02:48the disappointment of coming out in the semi-final of the Carabao Cup,
02:52the disappointment of Sunday are still there so you still carry that with you.
02:57You can't just extinguish that but is it an opportunity? Yes for a little bit of a reset
03:02because it's coincided also with some significant inclusions.
03:08I think there's an opportunity for that, yeah.
03:11Do you reset targets within that? Do you sort of sit down and address the players on that?
03:17Yeah, well I mean we've got a sort of clear course now of what's left for us, that's for sure.
03:24So we kind of know league-wise okay, well this is kind of our program without too many disruptions anymore
03:30because with our league, games were getting shifted about.
03:34I mean if we were in the Carabao Cup final we'd be playing Fulham next week in midweek, now we're not.
03:38We know that that's not there and then with Europe, again, it's a pretty set path.
03:42So it does give us a chance to sort of map out the rest of our season
03:46and also give the players some clear sort of objectives as to how we can tackle it.
03:52What would satisfy you in terms of the United Cup, the one-on-one effort, in terms of the league?
03:59Look, we need to improve our league position where we are.
04:05I don't think it's reflective of what we have and that's my role to get the maximum out of the guys we have.
04:13We need to move up the table and see where that takes us.
04:16I still think it's really tight.
04:19At some point, unless the teams are really lucky, the kind of injuries we've had will catch up with other teams as well,
04:26I think, which gives us an opportunity if we can get on a run to move up the table.
04:31Like I said, we can't put the queue in the rack in terms of the league
04:34and just say, well, let's just sort of peter out the season and finish wherever we finish.
04:38I think that's not the kind of mindset we want to see.
04:42We need to improve our league form, we need to move up the table
04:46and we need to tackle the task of trying to win a European trophy.
04:53Have you been able to do anything yourself to recharge?
04:57Have you played golf?
05:00No, but fair to say it's been good even just to have a couple of days after the Villa game.
05:08Obviously, you deal with the disappointment of it,
05:11but just to have a couple of days where I could sort of just clear my head a little bit
05:20because I really felt it was the grind of the games,
05:26the constant kind of trying to figure out ways we can navigate every sort of challenge we had on a daily basis.
05:40I said, turning up to this three, sometimes four times a week.
05:44You don't feel it when you're in it, but afterwards you kind of go,
05:51OK, it's good to get a bit of a break where you can sort of clear your head,
05:58have some meaningful kind of conversations with people
06:03about just anything without something else being at the forefront of my mind.
06:10Physically, I didn't do anything. I didn't go away or do anything,
06:14but just having a couple of days of just being...
06:18Do you have a spare afternoon? Do you have a box set you like to dig into or a book or anything?
06:23Yeah, I'm a big reader and I don't mind binging a series or two.
06:33What's an example of a series?
06:37I've seen how you used to tell us Game of Thrones.
06:40Game of Thrones, yeah.
06:43Just whatever sort of takes more fear.
06:45I don't want to throw one out there because it'll get a million hits
06:48and I might set people on the wrong path.
06:52But any kind of sort of...
06:55I just binged Landman. It just came out with Billy Bob Thornton.
07:00Very good.
07:03Yeah, I can recommend that. Well, to a certain audience anyway.
07:07It's not for kids.
07:10But yeah, that helps me kind of switch off and usually watch them with my wife.
07:15So yeah, we both enjoy that.
07:18And I say just...
07:22I think even she said that I was having conversations that I was actually invested in
07:26rather than sort of just my mouth moving up and down
07:31and other things being in my head. So yeah.
07:33Thanks, mate.
07:34John?
07:35Do you see Rupert Umberton as a kindred spirit?
07:38Maybe it's just that the formation of him is either a waste of time
07:42or it's not for the world.
07:44Yeah, I don't know about a kindred spirit.
07:46But I do admire people like that.
07:48I think it takes conviction and it takes...
07:53Like I said, we just don't live in that world anymore
07:59where people have the patience to see things grow and happen
08:04and to rail against that.
08:08Yeah, I've got great admiration for him.
08:10Look, I think he's an outstanding manager.
08:12I mean, I followed his career obviously at Sporting
08:14and there's a reason he was touted for quite a number of clubs.
08:19Not surprising to me.
08:23And yeah, I'm going to love seeing how it develops
08:27because I know it will in time.
08:29And you'll kind of sit back and admire the fact
08:35that he didn't yield or didn't sort of buckle
08:38when it's so easy to.
08:40It is. It's so much easier to conform
08:43instead of running the gauntlet of opinion.
08:49We all get judged the same way.
08:51We get judged on results. I get that.
08:54If you're in my position or sort of where Ruben is now
08:58you're going to get scrutiny and criticism
09:01but I don't think that means you're not coaching well
09:04or managing well.
09:06It's just I see those things differently
09:08and yeah, I'm sure he'll do a great job
09:13but irrespective I think he'll have a great career.
09:16Just my two cents worth.
09:18If you met the co-coaches you had at the gym
09:21when it comes to stadiums, how tough is it?
09:25Oh sorry, yeah.
09:27That's a challenge for them I guess.
09:34But you've got to say
09:40I think all jobs are tough, managerial jobs
09:45but that Man United one's got a bit extra on it I reckon.
09:51Fair bit of noise around that one.
09:53And George please.
09:55And I just want to take you back to 2020
09:57and see if that goes to harm.
09:59How much does this three-month period
10:01remind you of that four or five months
10:03you played at Fulham?
10:05Yeah, similar.
