00:00and their capacity to provide for themselves and their children.
00:04And they're smart.
00:06I think this is one of the most important things I've learned in my brief time in politics.
00:10Contrary to what you might hear a couple mountains over in Davos,
00:15the citizens of all of our nations don't generally think of themselves as educated animals
00:20or as interchangeable cogs of a global economy.
00:24And it's hardly surprising that they don't want to be shuffled about
00:27or relentlessly ignored by their leaders.
00:30It is the business of democracy to adjudicate these big questions at the ballot box.
00:36I believe that dismissing people, dismissing their concerns,
00:40or worse yet, shutting down media, shutting down elections,
00:44or shutting people out of the political process protects nothing.
00:50In fact, it is the most surefire way to destroy democracy.
00:55And speaking up and expressing opinions isn't election interference,
01:00even when people express views outside your own country
01:04and even when those people are very influential.
01:07And trust me, I say this with all humor,
01:10if American Democracy can survive ten years of Greta Thunberg's scolding,
01:15you guys can survive a few months of Elon Musk.
