00:21US President Donald Trump announcing that selling American oil and gas to India will bridge the trade deficit
00:28With a trade deficit nearing 100 billion dollars, the United States is eyeing energy exports to India as a solution
00:35But American oil isn't cheap
00:37US oil and gas are more expensive than supplies from Russia and OPEC. If India pivots to American energy
00:44It could face higher import costs and rising fuel prices at home
00:49Shifting to US imports could also dent India's trade surplus impacting economic stability and consumer prices
00:56Diversifying energy sources enhances security
00:58but heavy reliance on US imports could expose India to geopolitical risks and price volatility the
01:06reductions to India's unfair
01:09Very strong tariffs that limit US access into the Indian market very strongly and really it's big problem
01:16I must say
01:18India
01:19imposes a
01:2030 to 40 to
01:2360 and even 70 percent tariff on so many of the goods and in some cases far more than that and as
01:29An example of 70 percent tariff on US cars going into India, which makes it pretty much impossible to sell those cars
01:37today the US
01:38trade deficit with India is
01:41almost a hundred billion dollars and Prime Minister Modi and I have agreed that we'll be
01:46Getting negotiations to address the long-running disparities that should have been taken care of over the last four years
01:52but they didn't do that in the u.s. India trading relationship with the goal of a
01:59signing an agreement and we want
02:02really we want a
02:05Certain level playing field which we really think we're entitled to and and and he does also in fairness
02:11So we're gonna work on that very hard and we can make up the difference very easily with the deficit
02:16With the sale of oil and gas
02:18LNG of which we have more than anybody in the world
02:22the Prime Minister and I also reached an important agreement on energy that will
02:26Restore the United States as a leading supplier of oil and gas to India
02:31It will be hopefully their number one supplier and the groundbreaking
02:35So where does this leave India's long-standing energy partnerships?
02:40Russia a strategic ally offering competitive rates and flexible payment terms
02:45Will a shift to US energy strain this vital relationship?
02:49OPEC with historically lower prices and long-term contracts a pivot to American oil could cost India more and
02:57complicate diplomatic ties
02:59India faces a geopolitical tightrope balancing closer ties with Washington without alienating Moscow or the Middle East
03:07Energy trade also strengthens u.s. India strategic ties aligned interests in the Indo-pacific
03:13Countering China's growing influence, but for India the stakes are high
03:18balancing economic pragmatism with strategic diplomacy without jeopardizing energy security or
03:25Political neutrality all this will need a fine balancing act
