00:00Nothing makes the cold and misery of winter, especially February, go away
00:06like a little hot stove action for the Boston Red Sox, Curtis.
00:11I was pleasantly surprised this morning, upon waking up, to learn that
00:18That mofo is hot. Yeah, it is hot, Wiggy.
00:22It appears that Alex Bregman will be a member of this season's Boston Red Sox.
00:29And for the next two years after. So, three-year deal, if we are buying that this is a done deal,
00:36and it seems like, based on the reporting, it is.
00:39Well, based on Linda's Instagram.
00:41And they went above and beyond, baby.
00:45What do you mean above and beyond?
00:46They did less money, less years.
00:48They outbid per year, $40 million a year.
00:52But he hasn't out after year one and year two.
00:54Yeah, but you know, they spent the money.
00:56No, I'm all on board.
00:57I just already know that people are going to end up being like,
01:00oh, well, this deal, there's no security for Bregman.
01:03Like the Red Sox didn't do enough, you know, it's like, well, we got him.
01:07We got him for next year. That's all I care about.
01:08No, I actually.
01:10If you complain about this deal, just go home.
01:12Well, there are a lot of people look at social media.
01:14Really?
01:14Look at the Twitch already this morning.
01:16What are they upset about?
01:17Terrible deal. Red Sox didn't give themselves any security.
01:21That doesn't matter.
01:22I know.
01:22Like, this is the thing we were arguing about this back and forth.
01:26Clearly the Red Sox believe.
01:29Yep.
01:29That next season, the big three are kicking in and, you know,
01:34maybe in the back of their mind, they're dreaming about Vladdy G being available, whatever.
01:39So worst case scenario, you're paying Bregman for this season.
01:46And you're adding that bat that you wanted to add,
01:49right-handed bat and a guy who's won.
01:52Did he win two World Series with the Astros, Sean?
01:55I know he won one, but I think he may have won two down there.
01:57He did.
01:58He won the one with Cora and the one with Dusty Baker.
02:00Yeah. So you're adding that veteran guy who knows how to win.
02:04I love it.
02:05Yeah. I think it's a, you know, when you look at the move, right?
02:08You look at kind of where the Red Sox are.
02:12It's like, all right, they're investing to win this year, right?
02:16And they still obviously have, we'll have them, you know,
02:18there's a couple of opt outs or whatever.
02:20But if they want to continue to move, moving forward.
02:22And then you said, we'll see what happens with Vladdy next year.
02:25But it just goes, I think it's now about, you know,
02:28where they were getting major blowback as far as
02:31they weren't willing to spend money.
02:32They weren't willing to do anything.
02:34And then ultimately, don't you think they're going to end up
02:36paying Crochet a nice contract when he does become a free agent?
02:41Yeah. Honestly, like I hate to do this.
02:44I don't give a crap if you don't like this deal.
02:46This makes the team this year a contender in the division.
02:51And finally, John Henry has invested real money on the product.
02:57And I think it is a reaction to the ticket sales.
03:01There's a reaction to the ambivalence.
03:03And it's a good thing that they had to overpay on a per year basis.
03:09And guess what?
03:10Bregman's opt outs.
03:11Does anybody think Bregman's going to hate playing in Boston?
03:14No.
03:15Does anybody think the monster is going to do anything
03:17but help him when it comes to his stats?
03:19Nope.
03:19So then why wouldn't he re-up after year one?
03:21Get the duck boats ready.
03:23Right. I mean, call me a honkin' roach if you want.
03:26But my God, don't complain if they're spending.
03:28Listen, I agree with you, Curtis.
03:30And we are at the top of the list of those who have complained
03:35that John Henry doesn't want to spend money.
03:37Well, in this case, we owe him a, you know, strongly worded apology.
03:43No, we don't.
03:45Just all you gotta do is say, my bad, John.
03:47It's not my bad.
03:48It's thank you for doing something.
03:49You haven't been spending.
03:51You've changed.
03:51It's good.
03:52Getting fans on board.
03:53I love it.
03:55I say my bad.
03:56It's all good.
03:56You know, we always accept apologies.
03:59You know, we always can't be right about everything.
04:01I mean, if you look at Curtis,
04:03you brought up the Twitch chat and hello and good morning.
04:05And thank you to those who watch the show every day
04:09or every other day or whenever on Twitch or on YouTube.
04:12But Alan from Nashville says it worked for him.
04:15He is online currently purchasing tickets.
04:18Yeah.
04:18So there are, there are, you know, I think the addition of the pictures
04:22that they added to their, their roster this off season.
04:26And then obviously, you know, they talked about a right hand bat.
04:29They hit him was, they hit him was good last year,
04:32but the addition of adding another bat just makes them better.
04:35So there are, they are now a legit contender for the playoffs.
04:39And that's what it's all about.
04:40When you talking about baseball and any sport is getting to the playoffs.
04:43So what do you think that is the plan to,
04:46we talked about it yesterday because of what Alex Cora said,
04:49but is the plan for Devers to take some time off at third base
04:55and DH or move to first and Cassius is going to DH Curtis.
04:59Like what you're the baseball guy around here.
05:01Yeah. I think there's going to be the best news is that Devers and Cassius
05:06at different stages have broken down over the last couple of years.
05:10And this gives you an opportunity to always have a great lineup
05:14and have flexibility when it comes to who's at first, who's a third.
05:18To me, Bregman is, is a guy that the Red Sox,
05:21every time they won a world series, whether it was Lowell
05:25or whether it was guys like the, you know, that they brought in,
05:29in the oh four season, you had the holdovers of Manny
05:32and Ortiz that came in from the twins.
05:34Like he is a guy at the end of the year
05:37that will be a much better Turner
05:40than the Justin Turner that they got from the Dodgers.
05:42A guy that's been a champion that knows that this is the extension of Cora.
05:47This is a replacement of Bogarts in the locker room.
05:51A guy that Cora knows he can trust,
05:53that will hold players accountable and will face the media.
05:56Like to me, this is as big of a signing off the field as it is on it.
06:01And yeah, according to pass and play second base.
06:03Your mic's down.
06:04What time are you speaking?
06:08No.
06:08No.
06:09I can hear that as well.
06:10Oh, that's actually a gift for a lot of people.
06:11If your microphone is not working this morning.
06:15I was like,
06:18Oh, he goes on the water.
06:19I don't like this deal.
06:22Um, I, I, I think Alex Bregman purchased some Girl Scout cookies
06:27several years ago in Houston.
06:29Um, okay.
06:30We're working on Shime's microphone.
06:32To Curtis's point though, a lot of reports early are that
06:35he is actually going to play second base
06:37and then he's going to fill in for a Raffy.
06:40Yeah.
06:41And for those who are complaining about the $40 million or whatever the number is,
06:48you brought up Justin Turner.
06:50I think they paid him $46 million a year for that deal.
06:54So that's, if you're going to rent guys
06:57or you're going to get guys on short deals,
06:59that's going to, that's going to end up being what the number is.
07:02I think when you looked at what he wanted initially were,
07:06you know, reports out there and who the hell knows 200 million.
07:10And then he got like 156 over six years.
07:12And that do the math on that.
07:14That's what is that?
07:15Like 27 or something like that.
07:18So he's getting, you know, yearly way up there.
07:21I mean, 40 million, that's a, that's a high price tag for,
07:25you know, you're, you're in Aaron judge type of neighborhood
07:29when you're talking 40 million a year.
07:30So that's pretty good.
