Transcript
00:00Celtic's dreams of reaching the Champions League last-16 remain intact after a first-leg
00:06knockout stage 2-1 defeat to German giants Bayern Munich at Parkhead on Wednesday night.
00:13Celtic were unfortunate not to take the lead inside the opening 60 seconds of this game.
00:18Niklas Kuhn's rasping low drive threw a sea of bodies nestling in the back of the net
00:24but it was Adam Ida who'd strayed marginally offside and the linesman's flag went up.
00:29The goal was disallowed and Bayern Munich, well they took a while to get going in this tie.
00:35Much was made about the raucous Celtic Park atmosphere in the build-up to this game.
00:40Vincent Kompany in particular was speaking in his press conference about his memories of facing Celtic with Anderlecht back in 2013.
00:48But Bayern did take the lead on the stroke of half-time.
00:52It was Michael Alissi who got a fortunate ricochet off Greg Taylor
00:58but there was nothing fortunate about his strike.
01:01A sumptuous effort flying over the head of Kasper Speichel into the top corner to give Bayern a half-time lead.
01:08And the Bundesliga outfit really seized the initiative early in the second half.
01:13This was a goal that Celtic were really disappointed to have lost.
01:18It was a simple corner in the 49th minute and there was Harry Kane, the England captain,
01:23former Tottenham Hotspur striker, totally unmarked at the back post.
01:28But the finish was still a difficult one.
01:29He had to side-foot home a powerful volley for his 29th goal in 29 games for Vincent Kompany's side.
01:38Celtic weren't done there though.
01:40They were 2-0 down.
01:41It would have been easy for the heads to go down but to the Hoops' credit,
01:44they battled back and got their reward.
01:47Dyson Maeda, who has been Celtic's man of the moment in recent weeks following the departure of Kiyoko Furahashi in the January window,
01:55he produced a deft header to flick home at enhanced Celtic a late lifeline
02:02to ensure that this was far from the drubbing that many had expected.
02:08Bayern's class did shone through in the end to cling on under some late Celtic pressure
02:15but this was a performance that Brendan Rodgers will have been pleased with in certain aspects.
02:21He certainly served it up to the runaway Bundesliga leaders
02:27and a resilient display outlining their overall improvement in Europe's premier competition so far this season.
