00:00A group of people alerted the discovery of more than 100 social media accounts that spread questionable content online.
00:09These have an effect on the election of 2025. Here is the first news of our correspondent Maris Umal.
00:17In the hearing of the House Try Committee on the Spreading of Fake News and Disinformation in the Country,
00:23the Press1PH group announced that they monitored the online network of social media accounts
00:29that spread questionable content against the Philippines and President Bumbong Marcos,
00:34particularly the alleged involvement of the Philippine government in the issue of the West Philippine Sea.
00:39In their tweets, they frame this issue as the Philippines becoming a puppet of the US.
00:47America has an involvement here.
00:49They claim that it was funded by the US and that America is aware of what the Philippines is doing in the West Philippine Sea.
00:57This is to sow a narrative that the Philippines is wrong in talking about the West Philippine Sea and that we should not be there.
01:04Although this is just one of the many issues that are being posted by those behind the organized social media network,
01:12it has an effect on the upcoming election.
01:15This is very alarming, ma'am, especially when this happened and we saw this ahead of a very crucial election.
01:23A lot of the information that they use when they enter the polling precinct, they get from social media.
01:30Because if our electorate is not informed or misinformed or disinformed, we will not be able to give 100% confidence in our election.
01:40This is the database of Press1PH and based on what they discovered,
01:45it turns out that there are more than 107 accounts that are posting almost the same things at the same time.
01:5425 of these are Chinese account names.
01:59These accounts are trying to appear as if they are legitimate by people.
02:05So we cannot identify who is running these things.
02:10But what we can say is, they understand Chinese.
02:13Comelec knows that there are groups like this that spread misinformation and propaganda to influence the election.
02:20It could really be used in the candidacy of some of our candidates.
02:26If our fellow countrymen are able to make a way to confuse our countrymen, especially to report that it is not true,
02:33we will take down those platforms if necessary.
02:37We will try to commit our platforms to their seriousness in helping Comelec campaign against fake news, misinformation and disinformation.
02:48According to the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center or CICC,
02:52it is important for the public to be taught the importance of verifying content that is seen, especially if there are tools to do so.
03:00CICC showed on GMA Integrated News their app that can detect deepfake videos on social media.
03:08It is said that the app will take hours to activate and the leaked video will be released within 30 seconds if the content is fake or true.
03:17So instead of continuously being deceived by the content, they have increased their discernment capability.
03:28This is just a trick. This is not true. They can vote properly. They can vote wisely.
03:34This is the first news. Maris Umali for GMA Integrated News.
