Indian National Award-winning actor Saif Ali Khan is Bollywood’s go-to artist for playing the goofy, immature, emotionally-unavailable and commitment-averse man-child and he’s back in that familiar turf with his new relationship drama, Jawaani Jaaneman.

00:00Raise your hand if you're the 30-something on a dance floor, trying to dance desperately, look very cool at the same time.
00:12This is what makes Jawani Jaaneman tick. It takes you into the life of a staunch bachelor, Jazz.
00:17He's known as Jaspinder, played wonderfully by Saif Ali Khan.
00:21He loves his single life, he loves partying, he's a party animal.
00:26He doesn't remember the name of the women that he hits on but he invariably takes them home for a date.
00:32They're very dispensable and he knows how to have a good time in his life.
00:37He's a man who wakes up at 3pm in the afternoon after a hard night of partying
00:42and then does a bit of real estate brokering because he works in a family firm in London.
00:48All of it is very believable.
00:50One of the best parts about this relationship drama is the perfect casting.
00:55There's Saif Ali Khan who plays an unwilling dad.
00:57His perfect life as a single man comes to a halt when a 21-year-old tells him he's his biological dad
01:04and then their whole dysfunctional drama begins.
01:07It's a unique concept because for a change, Bollywood is not obsessed with youth-centric love stories.
01:12Here is a dad-daughter tale which is said in a very heartwarming and earnest manner.
01:17I can't tell you how perfect is Saif Ali Khan in a cool, sophisticated role
01:22desperately trying to clutch on to youth.
01:25He's a commitment-phobe. He hates adulting.
01:30He's like a giant man-child but he's very endearing.
01:33One of the best parts about actor Saif Ali Khan is that he manages to make
01:38even the unsavoury parts of a person's character into very palatable bits.
01:42For instance, a man like Jazz who can't remember women's names or loves partying relentlessly
01:49and tries to be so young all the time by wearing tight T-shirts can be a turn-off.
01:54But full credit has to be given to Saif Ali Khan for making it look very endearing.
01:59He almost makes it unthreatening and humane and that's one of the best parts about this film.
02:05Another discovery of this film is Alaya F.
02:08She's the daughter of Pooja Bedi and granddaughter of Kabir Bedi.
02:11These are good actors and what we have is Alaya F. showing spunk and spark aplenty.
02:17She plays a 21-year-old translator who goes to London in search of her dad.
02:22She's very, very sweet. She's sweet-natured and more mature than her dad
02:26who's going through a mid-life crisis of sorts.
02:28Her quarter-life crisis is more responsible. It's more under control.
02:32I love the chemistry between both dad and daughter.
02:35He's a reluctant dad. She is a daughter who wants to ingratiate herself into his house.
02:41Although that's not very believable.
02:43Why would a 21-year-old not have any anger management issues or anything like her dad?
02:48She's very perfect whereas he's very imperfect.
02:51That dichotomy might be a bit too much to take but they're very believable in their roles.
02:56And then there is, of course, Tabu.
02:58Trust a national award-winning actress like Tabu to inject so much life and worth
03:02into a role that's very difficult to play.
03:05She plays a hippie who loves being hedonistic and all the trappings that go with it.
03:11So she does it convincingly and there's also chemistry between the two.
03:14The sparring between the father and the mother of this film is so funny.
03:20In fact, it's interesting to see a Bollywood film take themselves not so seriously.
03:25It's very matter-of-fact and that is a departure of sorts and it's great to see that on the big screen.
03:30There are a lot of witty moments in this movie and that's what makes this film tick.
03:35There will be times when you feel that Saif Ali Khan's hedonistic lifestyle
03:39and the way he leads his life is getting a bit repetitive.
03:42Chunky Pandey's character is a bit too trite.
03:45There was no need for him to be there.
03:47And also this movie fuels a narrative that badly-raised men can be reformed by women.
03:54If you can forgive that part of it, then there's a lot to enjoy in Jawani Jaane Man.
03:58Put a ring on this, you will not regret it.
04:01I've gone with 3.5 out of 5.
