00:00Hello everyone we're back to our series on successful businessmen in the UAE and
00:05with me is a millennial 34 year old Mr. Naveel Pandya. He is running a stem cell
00:12venture and we are here to talk to him all about his journey and how it all
00:17started for him. So welcome to this interview with Gulf News and tell us
00:23about how it all started for you. It's definitely been an adventurous journey
00:27that led to this venture. So Bioscience Clinic Middle East is the first stem
00:33cell clinic in this region. We do all sorts of regenerative treatments using
00:38stem cells which is completely natural, doesn't have any side effects and there
00:43are a lot of cosmetic, aesthetic and other applications as well. We're very
00:48innovative in the sense that we come out with a lot of applications where we do
00:52osteoarthritis treatments as well. There is some research going on for cancer
00:56treatments as well using the stem cells. So we're pioneers in the sense that we
01:02offer clients something very natural, very safe, very effective and you see the
01:07benefits over a long term compared to what's available in the market currently.
01:10So how did it start for you? How did you think about starting this venture?
01:14It all stemmed out of curiosity. Curiosity and the need to seek
01:20something innovative, something that's natural, that's safe and that offers
01:25people a long-term solution rather than a quick fix which is what's currently
01:29available in the market. And the curiosity came from my business
01:34background which is into laboratory equipment, laboratory setup. So we were
01:40already in the field of setting up labs. We understood the background that's
01:45required. We understood the technology and the equipment that's needed in the
01:49lab for this kind of application. And it was a chance meeting with an Italian
01:57gentleman who was the co-founder, who was the CEO and founder of Bioscience in
02:02Italy and we met. We had a very good discussion. We shared a lot of ideas and
02:08we just connected in a way that led to this venture and we were very
02:12comfortable with ourselves. We trusted each other and we both had the same
02:18mindset. We understood that this is a long-term game. It's not something that
02:22you get into very quickly and you start reaping the benefits from day one
02:25because we had a lot of challenges in the beginning. There were a lot of
02:29approvals that had to be taken care of. There was a lot of investment in the
02:33beginning, a lot of training and the biggest challenge was awareness because
02:39people were not aware that this exists, this is available for them. They were
02:43more towards the other things that are available in the market today which may
02:49not be the safest for them. So to spread the awareness, to tell them that this is
02:54available, this is very safe, we've done the clinical trials, we've presented our
02:59results, we've got the approvals from the government and here we are.
03:03Who's your target client? Is it hospitals or individuals? So the way we work, we
03:11have channel partners where we have plastic surgeons, dermatologists and
03:15doctors that we work with. They are the first contact to the market so they
03:20would have patients coming to them. They would collect their fat samples for
03:24example, send it to our lab, we process them, we multiply the cells, we send them
03:28back to them and they would administer them to their patients. So you know
03:33honestly the age is anywhere from 18 upwards because there is no right or
03:41wrong time to come and store your cells with us or use those cells for any
03:46application and it's open to men, women. We do treatments for the hair, for the
03:53face, anti-aging, scar treatment. So you're looking at anyone who wants to
04:00have better skin, look younger naturally. Okay, that's interesting. So it's
04:07a cosmetic as well as medical in the sense that it also helps rejuvenate
04:14one's body image and everything. So that's really interesting and how
04:20affordable is this? Well we've worked really hard on getting the pricing to be
04:25as affordable as possible because at the end of the day, customers want the best
04:29value for what they're getting. So we brought the pricing down to be very
04:33competitive with other treatments that are available in the market currently
04:37and this allows us to be more competitive and also offers the patients
04:44and the clients a lot more value because now they know they can get the latest
04:48technology, the most safest treatment available at a competitive price. Okay,
04:54so as a millennial, are there challenges for you? I'm sure there are a fair
04:59share of challenges. Do you have to prove yourself every time? Absolutely, as a
05:04millennial or you know it's sometimes challenging to convince a large
05:10audience about something very serious because they may not take you that
05:15seriously. They may think okay you're very young, what's his experience or
05:20what's their knowledge, how capable are they? So you know we had to really prove
05:25ourselves with data, with facts, with scientific publications and with you
05:30know a real genuine sincere effort that look we are here to give you something
05:34really good, really safe and you know once you try it, you will know what it's
05:40worth and you know you just have to keep on at it. You don't give up when you
05:46have a vision, you have a dream, you have a plan, step-by-step plan on how to
05:50execute it. You just focus on going on that path and you know of course there's
05:55a lot of persistence and effort that's required but eventually you do reach
05:59your goal if you're persistent enough and your message is very clear, you're
06:04genuine, you're sincere, you're honest. We are very transparent with our patients
06:08and clients. We are very open about how we do, what we do. So you know we build
06:17the trust with them and that trust is what's more important than you know what
06:21age you are or you know how old you are. You could be very young and do something
06:26absolutely amazing or you could have you know reach at the end of your career and
06:31still do something amazing. So at the end of the day it's how you build trust with
06:35your target audience and that really helps you especially as a millennial.
06:40That's what makes them trust you and understand where you're coming from.
06:43Right. You were born here in the UAE. Yes. So this is home to you. Yes. I was born in Dubai in the UAE and this has been home ever since.
06:51Right and your dad came here in the 70s. Yes. So he's seen the era where you know
06:58the tall buildings were not there but tell us about how the UAE as a country
07:04has helped you to be a successful you know millionaire today. Well the UAE has
07:10been the best place for me. Firstly we have very visionary leaders and being
07:16born and raised in Dubai has been very special because I have been part of the
07:21growth of the city. Actually I'm sometimes not sure who grew faster
07:28whether it was me or the city because I have not seen any other place that has
07:33literally come from for grown from the sand to the stars. And this has been a
07:40huge inspiration for me and it made me realize that there is nothing impossible.
07:45If you have a dream, if you have a vision and you have a plan to execute it
07:50there is nothing to stop you and having limited resources is not an excuse
07:56because we are living in an example where there was nothing available back
08:01in the day for those who came in the 70s and 80s and along with the city with the
08:06country everyone has grown tremendously. So you know when when people say that
08:12oh this is really challenging and this is really difficult I'm not sure how to
08:16get there can it be done there is always a way. You could imagine someone in 1995
08:22if someone told you that we can make an island in the shape of a palm tree yeah
08:28you would look at the person and wonder what is he talking about and here it is very much
08:34it's there on the map visible from space so and you know building a building a
08:40tower that's almost a kilometer up in the sky or a seven-star hotel on an
08:43island it's not so much about these physical structures but it's about the
08:48dream and the vision and how they executed it. This is what makes this
08:52place so attractive and that makes these structures stand out because just to
08:56physically construct something it's possible but the dream and the vision
09:00the persistence to not stop to keep going and to make it happen is what I've
09:05learned a lot from and that's what I try to use in my life professionally
09:09personally that when you have a vision and you have a goal there is a way to
09:12execute it and you just have to keep on at it. I have been able to increase the
09:16turnover of my family business for our analytical and lab equipment division
09:22from a very humble 35 million back in 2007 before I started my MBA to over 140
09:32million today. I would attribute that to is the fantastic people and the strong
09:36team that I have because honestly without the kind of people that I work
09:39with without the team that we have it's very difficult to achieve something
09:43completely on your own you have to depend as an entrepreneur as a business
09:47person you need good dependable people you need dependable people you
09:52need reliable people and my way of leading is not so much of being a boss
09:57but my way of leading is how can I support my team how can I provide the
10:01tools and facilities for my people for my colleagues to help them succeed to
10:05make them achieve their goals to help them achieve their targets to help them
10:09execute their projects so this is my leadership style where I kind of lead
10:13from behind and and support them and be a pillar for them. Okay great so it's
10:18been really interesting talking to Naveel Pandya if you want to know more
10:22about the story do read our complete details on his life and journey it will
10:29be posted on the Gulf News website. This is Anjana Kumar for Gulf News
