00:02:35All committee heads, please.
00:02:37While all the committee heads are calling to be on stage, allow me to continue my welcome
00:02:55remarks. As we celebrate the 120th proclamation of our Philippine independence, we are reminded
00:03:05of the sacrifices of our forefathers in making our beloved country free from injustice, colonizers,
00:03:14and bondages. The Bagong Bayani who are the unsung modern day heroes of our generation
00:03:23should be our inspiration to continue working hand in hand for a strong, idealistic, and
00:03:32dignified Philippines. Our country's leadership has shown mass improvement and change, a change
00:03:42for a better Philippines. Let me remind you steadfast to support the good governance that
00:03:51our leaders are implementing to our country. As our beloved President, Mayor Rodrigo Roa
00:03:58of the 13th Connective Battle, the social eal of corruption. Inspired by our sacrifices,
00:04:08I enjoin you to thus bravely before us, being overseas filimongers in Dubai and Northern
00:04:15Emirates, the so-called modern day heroes, may we find courage to defend our cherished
00:04:24liberation and aspiration to promote common good, the ideals of aspiration of democracy
00:04:32now in the years to come. Ladies and gentlemen, these are the men and women who made this
00:04:46event possible. Without each and every one's effort, including the volunteer members of
00:04:52each and every organization here in Dubai and Northern Emirates, we don't have any event
00:04:57like this today. So, from the bottom of my heart, allow me to thank each and every one
00:05:05of you, including the members of our organization who made this event possible. Can I ask our
00:05:13Consul General for Raymond Cortes and Madam Yasmin Malata Cortes, including our Labor
00:05:19Attaché, Madam Freddy Bayo, our Deputy Consul General, and our Vice Consul to join us on
00:05:26stage. Let me ask also our former Chairmans and Filipino Community Presidents to join
00:05:46us on stage because they are the pillars of this event. The success of the previous leadership
00:05:56is the mirror of this success that we are reaping today. May I ask Sir Milton and Press
00:06:17Elmar to join us on stage. As you can see, it's not only Dubai and Northern Emirates,
00:06:25but including Abu Dhabi leadership are here joining us today. Before I end this remarkable
00:06:41speech, have a remarkable celebration of the 120th Philippine Independence Day.
00:06:46Mabuhay ang Pilipino sa Dubai at Pilagang Emirates. Mabuhay tayong lahat. Good morning.

00:08:08Engineering Journal Frontline and the Organizing Committee of BID 2018.
00:08:21Ladies and gentlemen, it's time to listen to the current highest ranking Filipino official
00:08:32responsible for Dubai and Northern Emirates. A product of the Ateneo de Manila University
00:08:41and the University of the Philippines for his formative university and postgraduate
00:08:50studies. As head post, he shares that his main priorities include his work for the Filipino
00:08:59community, the effective management of the sizeable consulate personnel, and together
00:09:06with his family, being able to understand Islamic culture. Ladies and gentlemen, can
00:09:15we put our hands together as we welcome on stage, the only singing Consul General all
00:09:25over the world, His Excellency Consul General Paul Raymond Cortez.
00:09:45Magandang umaga po sa atin lahat. Good morning everybody.
00:09:55Sabi nila NRG so I'm here to pangunahan po lahat ng taon.
00:11:05Ngunit sa kadahilanan ng Ramadan, and in deference to the cultural and traditional sensitivities
00:11:13of the host country, we have moved our celebrations past Ramadan, at ito nga ang first day ng
00:11:22Eid.
00:11:32And at the same time, happy Independence Day ulit sa atin.
00:11:56natin, overseas Filipinos dito. Bakit? Dahil gusto natin ipakita at gusto natin makisali
00:12:05sa mga various activities ng Philippine Independence Day celebrations natin.
00:12:12Ano ba yung mga ito? Meron tayong Battle of the Bands, meron tayong Fruit and Chocolate
Why? Because we would like to share the happiness
00:12:39that we have for Philippine Independence Day to all overseas expats, Pinoy expats in the UAE.
00:12:49And thank you to our wonderful sponsors who have made this happen.
00:12:54Ano ba sana ang ibig sabihin ng Philippine Independence Day? Kalayaan. Kalayaan from what?
00:13:10Free to determine for ourselves what it means to be a Pinoy.
00:14:05Mapa-America man, mapa-Asia man, mapa-UAE man, ang overseas Pinoy, ang Filipino expats
00:14:36hindi lamang sa UAE but elsewhere around the world.
00:14:39Bakit?
00:14:41Di gusto natin ishout out sa buong mundo
00:14:45na pagka ang overseas Pinoy community sa Dubai
00:14:49ay nag-celebrate wagas at maraming maraming talagang sasama.

00:16:14Happy Independence Day mabuhay!
00:16:18Thank you!
00:16:22Can we give His Excellency Paul Raymond Gortez
00:16:26the loudest applause of the day!
00:16:29That's the lightest energy!
00:16:35You know, what makes the celebration more exciting
00:16:39is the motorcade
00:16:41from the Philippine Consulate

00:16:48So, I'd like to welcome
00:16:51the participants of the motorcade.
00:16:55Can we give them a thundering applause
00:16:58inside the Trade Center

00:17:05together with the Dubai Police
00:17:08and RTA officials.
00:17:19They are on the way,
00:17:21joining us here inside.
00:17:24There are no words to describe
00:17:26how much we are blessed
00:17:28to be here with His Excellency Paul Raymond Gortez
00:17:31on this day in the highest ranks of the era.
00:17:34May he rest in peace!
00:17:38I get the chance to experience
00:17:41his amazing power and experience
00:17:44that I have never had before.
00:17:47To be a guest on a motorcade
00:17:50in the Philippines
00:17:53This is the biggest motorcade ever, as we celebrate Halyar 2018, Emirates Motorsport

00:18:20man, responsible for the motorcade, Engineer Dante D'Alessio.

00:21:01and Engineer Dante D'Alessio.
00:21:20And now, ladies and gentlemen, is the time for our special guest to grace the stage.
00:21:28Our speaker is a native of Vigan City. He is a seasoned politician here in the province,
00:21:34which started in 1975 as a barangay captain. He was elected Vice Mayor of Vigan and became
00:21:41the Executive Vice President of the Vice Mayor's League of the Philippines. He has been in
00:21:48public service for 43 years now, setting on record the longest public official serving
00:21:54uninterrupted and continuously in the province of Ilocos Sur. With his accomplishments, he
00:22:00is back as a Provincial Vice Governor of our province in Hazda, following call names given
00:22:06by the people of Ilocos Sur. Father of daycare services, father of Butika ng Barangay, father
00:22:13of Mukai Okai, father of water spring development, father of medical missions, father of the
00:22:22youth, a caring and loving husband, father and grandfather, an advocate of the diseases
00:22:29of poverty, an ardent, resolute, and pro-patria medallist.
00:22:34Ladies and gentlemen, I am most honored to introduce to you, Vice Governor Jerry Mayas
00:22:48Jeremy Simpson.
00:23:09Thank you very much, Chelsea.
00:23:11Isang mapaglayan umaga sa inyong lahat. May God bless you all. Happy Philippine Independence
00:23:28Day. Everything that can teach me something interests me, so that I can bring to the Philippines
00:23:41the best I find here. This is extracted from the letter of Dr. Jose Rizal to Manuel Hidalgo
00:23:52on November 11, 1886. Rizal spent most of his progressive and scholarly education abroad.
00:24:04With that, however, he never turned a blind eye to his country. He was always mindful
00:24:15with the Philippines by comparing it with the places he visits, the system, methods,
00:24:27principles, and the way of life. Definitely learning from other cultures and proposing
00:24:36to replicate in the Philippines. This should be the attitude of every Filipino overseas.
00:24:44Learn from other countries. Significantly, it is very opportune time to be here in Dubai
00:24:56a week before the event. Normally, I arrive a day before the event. With this time, I
00:25:06have reversed my tenure and planned to be off to Manila a day after the event instead.
00:25:16For the past days, I have observed the performance and manners of the Filipino community here
00:25:24in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Now, these in glory of their lives go to the fields to till the
00:25:36land for the labor of man sustains family, home, and motherland. Hard the land they tend
00:25:47to be, scorching the race of the son of man. For the country, spouse the children and will
00:25:57be easy to our land. Him to labor by Dr. Roger Rizal. Filipino has always been diligent in
00:26:09work. Amongst nationalities, we recognize that our race is one that has nationalities
00:26:18favored in the aquarium. Having this perception of the project to us, let us be responsible
00:26:28not to be complacent. One wrong action of a Filipino reflects the rules 21.3% of the
00:26:41demographic population here in Dubai. There should always be a focus to all the Filipino
00:26:50community. Let us just put it this way. What is your name? Wanderacruz, for instance. Should
00:27:02Wanderacruz commit transgression here in Dubai and Northern Emirates? Locals are not laying
00:27:11him down. He causes terrifying to all Filipinos. Moreover, his surname as Wanderacruz may
00:27:24eventually be debarred or outlawed here in Dubai. Should Wanderacruz does not mind to
00:27:35pigeonhole his race? Imagine this, his family name is cherished by his children and thus
00:27:44a blemish or stain he might just fall and be absorbed by his children. Would you think
00:27:54he can accept it to generate a blurry future to his children? I believe not. That is why
00:28:05we should also warn the people to safeguard our sacred names. Never shall we interface
00:28:15negative vibes. Never shall we allow jealousy. Never shall we permit misunderstanding. Never
00:28:29shall we give to temptations. Never shall we tolerate wrongdoings. All the likes of
00:28:42I always tell them, be illustrious, not notorious. In doing this, we will not do wrong. And
00:28:55always, the eyes of the Filipinos, the eyes of the people will always be smiling with
00:29:03contempt of how a Filipino is doing, of how a Filipino is acting, of how a Filipino is
00:29:10talking, and how the Filipino is working here in UAE. As they say, no one remembers you
00:29:24who did this, but everyone recalls you when you make a mistake. On a bigger and more general
00:29:36perspective, today, we really need to move forward. Kalayaan 2018.
00:29:54It is very timely that we should review our past to decide and drive towards prosperity.
00:30:04Similarly, Bizarra has said, he who does not know how to look back at where he came from
00:30:15will never get to his destination. This is a very ordinary, simple and familiar idea
00:30:34of Bizarra, a sensible guy among us during this PID event. What caught my attention,
00:30:45however, is the analogous concept of UAE's founding ruler, His Highness Sheikh Zayed
00:30:56bin Sultan Al-Nasr Jan. He said, whoever has no past was neither present nor future.
00:31:09As every one of us desire nothing but progress in ourselves, our politics, the community
00:31:20and the country may always be jaded by our past. It is therefore vital to keep our former
00:31:30years sanctified to carry us towards the change and success we all work for.
00:31:39Lastly, I want to express my most cordial gratitude to my stay here in UAE. First, the
00:31:52Philippines consulate here in Dubai for the invitation to be with you today, to Consul
00:32:01General, Honorable Paul Raymond Cortez and Madam Hasbini, to General Hasbini, to our
00:32:20Chairman, John Ronda, and the whole PID community.
00:32:33For the incomparable provision of our integrity, security and everything we need here in UAE,
00:32:42to the Embassy of the Philippines in Abu Dhabi for the very warm accommodation, Vice
00:32:58Consul and Judge Diakleri, Madam Rowena Anginina Zakirpi has extended to our courtesy visit
00:33:08Madam Josunay Diagrina. I would like also to mention the following women and men who
00:33:20are the same with other races, but for the warm and special attention to all the Filipinos.
00:33:29Sir Atallah Habib, Sir David John, and Sir Cornel Wallace, Josunay Diagrina.
00:33:43For discharging Nights of Rizal Monday here in UAE, Sir Louis James Bendanillo, and the
00:33:53whole Nights of Rizal here in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, Josunay Diagrina.
00:34:03To all overseas Filipinos, workers here in Dubai, Northern Iberians, and entitled to
00:34:11make their own Iberians, Josunay Diagrina. Finally, let us act like Rizal. Let us work
00:34:25like Rizal. Let us live like Rizal. Let us all be one, unified, harmonious and intact
00:34:40founders of the Philippines to effect change among us all. Let us share our thoughts,
00:34:49families, resources to guide our economy and organization, the people in distress and every
00:34:59Filipino here in UAE. Let us all be faster, just like Rizal.
00:35:08Josunay Diagrina.
00:35:16Thank you, Vice Governor Terry Simpson. Can we give him a round of applause?
00:35:25We Filipinos love to sing. We sing for so many reasons. We sing when we are happy. We
00:35:41build our vocal cords when we are sad. And the fact that we are far from our family,
00:35:48music is still our song. Today, to render us a beautiful song, let's welcome the well-known
