00:00Dubai added another iconic tourist destination to its list of must-visit sites with the opening
00:14of Queen Elizabeth II Hotel on Wednesday, nearly 10 years after the world's most famous
00:19ocean liners teamed into its new permanent home at Port Rashid.
00:22QE2 will serve a new life as an upscale hotel and a museum designed to help boost Dubai's
00:28aim of becoming a world-class tourist destination.
00:32Seven floors and 224 restored passenger state rooms of the 13-deck ship were opened during
00:37the soft opening.
00:39Images of the maiden voyage and other artifacts from the ship have been attractively housed
00:44in the new QE2 Heritage Exhibition in the renovated Mina Rashid Terminal.
00:48QE2 has gone through 2.7 million man-hours of transformation.
00:53The refurbished ship has retained the original porthole windows in the rooms as well as the
00:57interior design features.
00:59The QE2 sailed into Gulf waters on November 26, 2008 and was welcomed by an armada of
01:04bobbing yachts in light seas as an overhead fly-pass by an Emirates A380 aircraft announced
01:10her arrival.
