00:00It's the most powerful thing, I think, on the planet, because I didn't really get it
00:12until I was halfway through my career. I went to Paris for two weeks. I stayed five years.
00:19I was the music director of a record company, Barclay Records. I studied with Nadi Buladze,
00:25I saw Stravinsky every day. He was his mentor, too. Albert Berg at a university. So she said
00:32to me, you jazz guys are hard to teach because you shack up the music first and then you
00:37court it and marry it later. I was studying to write for woodwinds, brass, and strings
00:43and percussions. It's amazing. She said, until God gives us 13 notes, we'll only have seven
00:52notes for 700 years. Brown, Bach, Beethoven, Basie, Bo Diddley, Berg, everybody. The same
01:0012 notes everywhere in the world. So forget about languages. That's the language music
01:05is. It comes from God. Rhythm, melody, I mean rhythm, harmony, and melody. And it's powerful
01:13stuff, man. And it pulls people together because that's the same language everywhere you go.
01:18I don't care if it's China, Brazil, wherever, it's the same language. I'm so glad. I can't
01:24even drive a car, man. But I know my music. I love it. There's only two kinds, good music
01:31and bad music. I listen to Kendrick Lamar. I like Bruno Mars, I like Common, Ariana Grande,
01:40Mary J. Blige, Jennifer Hudson. The ones that are good. I know who's good and who's not.
01:50So that's what it's all about. Classical music, my favorites. Past the obvious ones are Bartok
02:00in Poland, it's Slavsky, Pendereski, just the best in every area. And that's the joy.
02:11We've been talking about it, you know, so we run to people all over the world. There's a girl from here named Chrissy Jahr, who's from Beirut.
02:18She's a Beirut gal. Amazing singer. We did a concert over here with our company, we have a big company in Dubai, with
02:26Petr Jafar from Shevy & Oil. He's from Shahjahr. And we brought over Selena Gomez and Will.i.am
02:35and Timbaland for a concert over here. And we voted her number one, Chrissy Jahr. She's an insane man.
02:43That's all that's important. Can you do it or can you not? You know what, if racism in the world were left up to musicians,
02:52it would have been over 60 years ago. But the thing is, can you do your thing?
02:57Who cares if you're brown, black, white, yellow, whatever. Can you handle it? You know, that's the bottom line.
03:02And that's the way it should be.
