00:09Dubai Police and Civil Defence are investigating a fire which broke out last night at a 14-storey
00:15building at the Oceanic Complex on Palm Jumeirah. The fire was put out early this morning with
00:20no reports of injuries. It broke out late on Monday at the Adriatic building and residents
00:26were immediately asked to evacuate. Several teams of fire crews battled the blaze which
00:31engulfed a section of the middle and upper floors.
00:35Ras al-Khaimah Police have arrested a man accused of intentionally killing his parents
00:39by setting their family home on fire. Police arrested the 38-year-old Emirati in Jalfahr
00:45district. The police said the suspect suffers from psychological problems and has been charged
00:51with arson.
00:52US President-elect Donald Trump has selected ExxonMobil CEO Rex Tillerson to lead the State
00:59Department. The appointment caps a lengthy process that often played out in public and
01:04exposed rifts within his transition team. It also sets Trump up for a potential fight
01:10with Congress over confirming Tillerson, who has connections with Russian President Vladimir
01:15Putin.
01:16Jakarta's governor choked back tears as he gave an impassioned defence against blasphemy
01:22charges today. Basuki Purnama, the first Christian to govern the capital in more than 50 years,
01:27is standing trial accused of insulting the Quran, an offence that carries a five-year
01:32jail term. The governor has apologised for his controversial remarks, which drew hundreds
01:38of thousands to the streets of Jakarta in protests.
01:42Eight months after he cancelled a planned UAE trip due to a family emergency, Sir Tom
01:47Jones has decided he is going to come back roaring. This time, he is performing at the
01:52Emirates Airline Dubai Jazz Festival on February 22 at the Dubai Media City Amphitheatre. The
01:59Welsh music icon will open the 15th year of the annual music event, which will also feature
02:04Mariah Carey on February 23 and Enrique Iglesias on February 24.
