00:00Good day, welcome to the Gulf News Update for Monday, December 21st.
00:08Here are the top stories at this hour.
00:10Spain faces a struggle to form a stable government following historic elections
00:14that saw the incumbent Conservatives score a win but no majority,
00:18told by the long-established Socialists and upstart far-left Podemos.
00:21For more than 30 years, the popular party and Socialists had alternated power,
00:25but now they find themselves challenged by relative newbies Podemos and Ciudadanos,
00:29a centrist party that came fourth in Sunday's closely fought legislative polls.
00:33While it took the largest share of the vote, the PPP lost its absolute majority in parliament
00:37by a significant margin, but will now have to form an alliance with other parties
00:41to govern or attempt to rule as a minority government, creating near-term uncertainty.
00:45Rescuers were searching for at least 91 missing people a day after a mountain of excavated soil
00:51and construction waste buried dozens of buildings when it swept through an industrial park
00:55in the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen.
00:58Chinese official Xinhua News Agency said the landslide buried or damaged 33 buildings
01:02in the industrial park in Shenzhen, a major manufacturing center in Guangdong province.
01:07One person was killed and six were in critical condition
01:10after a car crashed into pedestrians on a sidewalk in Las Vegas Strip.
01:14The vehicle was in the northbound lanes of Las Vegas Boulevard near Bellagio Way
01:18when the vehicle drove up onto the sidewalk in front of the Paris Hotel and Casino
01:22and struck pedestrians, including 37 people, who were taken to the hospital.
01:27The Miss Universe contestant from the Philippines is this year's winner,
01:30but for one brief moment it appeared it might be a repeat win for Colombia.
01:34Colombia contestant Ariadna Gutierrez Arevalo was already wearing the crown
01:39as this year's Miss Universe winner when host Steve Harvey returned to apologise.
01:43Harvey said it was his mistake that he would take responsibility for not correctly reading the card.
01:47We've said that contestant Pia Alonzo-Wurtzbach was this year's winner
01:51and Colombia was actually the first runners-up.
01:54And finally, the weather.
01:55Today's height across the UAE will be 26 degrees Celsius, dropping to 17 degrees at night.
02:00That's all for now. Thank you for watching.
