00:00Good day. Welcome to the Gulf News update for Thursday, November 26. Here are the top
00:10stories at this hour.
00:11French President François Hollande will hold talks today with Russian leader Vladimir Putin
00:16as part of his diplomatic marathon to forge a broader coalition against Daesh terrorists
00:21in the wake of the Paris attacks.
00:23Hollande has been on a whirlwind tour seeking to build a coalition to crush Daesh in Iraq
00:27and Syria, but has seen few concrete pledges so far. His campaign has been further complicated
00:33by a diplomatic spat between Russia and Turkey.
00:36Pope Francis told Christian and Muslim leaders in Kenya that they have little choice but
00:41to engage in dialogue to guard against the barbarous extremist attacks that have struck
00:45Kenya recently. He said religious leaders must be prophets of peace in a world sown
00:50by hatred.
00:52On his first full day in Africa, Francis insisted that religion can never be used to justify
00:57violence and lamented that all too often young people are being radicalised in the
01:02name of religion to sow discord and fear, and to tear at the very fabric of our societies.
01:08The heroes and victims of the 26-11 terror attacks in Mumbai that left 166 people, including
01:1428 foreigners dead, were solemnly remembered at various commemorative events today. Chief
01:20Minister Devendra Fadnavis led the main commemoration at the 26-11 memorial in the Police Gymkhana.
01:27In football last season's runners-up, Juventus joined Man City, Paris Saint-Germain, Atletico
01:33Madrid and Benfica in clinching qualification for the last 16 of the Champions League with
01:39one round of group games still to spare.
01:42Two book adaptations, both of which have won near-universal praise, will get top billing
01:46at the 12th Dubai International Film Festival when it begins on December 9.
01:51Lenny Ibrahimsen's suspenseful drama Room, based on Emma Donoghue's 2010 bestseller,
01:57will open the annual festival, while Adam McKay's take on Michael Lewis' financial
02:01crisis book The Big Short will be the closing film on December 16.
02:06And finally, the weather. Today's high across the UAE will be 30 degrees Celsius, dropping
02:11to 20 degrees at night.
02:13That's all for now. Thanks for watching. A reminder that our next bulletin will be
02:16on Sunday, but as always, you can get the latest news on gulfnews.com
