00:00The 34th edition of GITEX Technology Week signed off at the Dubai International Convention
00:16and Exhibition Center after showcasing products from around 3,700 companies from 61 countries.
00:22The exhibitions at the five-day event were featured under four knowledge themes, smart,
00:27cloud, big data, and mobility.
00:30Government-related agencies once again occupy the entire Sheikh Zayed Hall this year, featuring
00:35different innovations and initiatives that underline the government's vision to transform
00:40Dubai into a smart city.
00:42The Roads and Transport Authority was among the government entities that launched new
00:46services at the event, including a smart road app, an updated smart parking app, and the
00:51use of drones to provide better services.
00:54We have two new things in the NOL card.
00:57One of it we are trying to see if there is a, we are putting a sticker, NOL card.
01:05This is like the similar NOL card, but basically it's a sticker.
01:09You can stick it on your phone or in any other thing, and you can use this to access the
01:17public transport or to pay NOL with it.
01:20The second thing, we have done a crowdsourcing competition using basically the social media
01:30to announce that we wanted people from the public in Dubai to help us and to come up
01:36with pictures that we can put it on NOL cards and make it a specialized NOL card with special
01:43designs.
01:44Over a thousand competitors entered the competition, and out of this thousand, we've selected
01:5113 pictures, 13 designs to be used.
01:55We are going to be using drones in three different areas.
02:01One is to basically have an overview from above of the current ongoing projects, so
02:07it will help us in decision making with regards to projects.
02:10The second thing is we are going to be using the drones for maintenance, where we can fly
02:16these drones to check the bridges and certain areas that is very difficult to reach.
02:22And the third thing, we are going to be using these drones for basically to, for if there
02:29is any crisis or emergencies that we need to have these drones get us pictures.
02:35I would like to introduce our new parking inspectors in the future, in the near future
02:41actually.
02:42Okay.
02:43And I'm here with Abdel Salam, one of our key inspectors, supervisors for inspectors.
02:51And what we're demonstrating here, Abdel Wahab has two things.
02:55First of all, we are replacing the big, bulky, handheld devices to normal smartphones, so
03:04he can now easily carry a small device, and this device is connected through the network,
03:11so it will give him information, all the details that he requires as he's doing the inspections
03:17for the parking.
03:18Also, he's wearing, as you can see, the Google Glass, where with the Google Glass in the
03:24near future, when Google Glass will be available, he can basically take a picture of a plate
03:30number, and then automatically the handheld will tell him if this car has already been
03:36paid, or this parking has been paid for it or not.
03:39In addition to that, what we are introducing in the parking, we are introducing, if you
03:45look down here, we are introducing basically the parking sensors.
03:52By the end of this year, we will be announcing that within the parking application that we
03:59have already launched, we'll add a new service to it, and this service will help you to know
04:05if there are parkings available or not.
04:08Here, we have an initiative for promoting Dubai brand, and this is an optional thing
04:17where the customers can decide if they want to have the new Dubai logo brand on their
04:26plate numbers.
04:27They can have it as an option, but at a certain fee.
04:31We are adding to Wichita the augmented reality capabilities, where a customer, if he's using
04:38Wichita and he wants to know which direction or where are the things around him, and especially
04:45where are the bus stop or the metro station and this, the augmented reality, as he turns
04:51on his camera through the app, he will see the street and everything that he's on, and
04:58then it will show him where is basically the location of the station or the bus stop.
05:05Other government entities that exhibited technology-led innovations include Dubai Police and Dubai
05:09Airports.
