00:00The second edition of Downtown Design, the Middle East's platform for contemporary and
00:09quality design, opened its doors last week from the 29th to the 31st of October at the
00:14venue at the foot of Dubai's iconic Burj Khalifa.
00:19Organized by Art Dubai with the theme Original Design, the event hosted over 50 design brands
00:24from around the world including first-time exhibitors Lasfit, who brought their kinetic
00:28glass sculptures to the region which utilized sound to open and close the glass chandeliers.
00:34Sigis, the Italian art design factory with their stunning mosaic craftsmanship.
00:39And Preciosa, who held glass-cutting workshops throughout the fair.
00:45Our company is based in Czech Republic in the region which is called Bohemia and it's
00:50300 years old brand and for this exhibition we decided to do something different apart
00:56from just showcasing chandeliers so we brought the real art from Czech Republic.
01:02So we brought the machine from the Czech Republic and the idea of the stand is the art of cut.
01:08So we actually brought those guys from the factory and everyone can try the craftsmanship.
01:16The fair is intended to link historical design with the future by allowing visitors the chance
01:20to network and learn about the latest trends from world experts in the field.
01:24And it has established itself as the only platform in the region where the who's who
01:28in design are able to showcase their latest creations.
01:36The business of design was in the spotlight this year with budding new entrepreneurs vying
01:40for a chance to showcase their innovative ideas.
01:43So my project is silk leaf and excella are two materials that photosynthesize using the
01:48natural photosynthesis chemical reaction.
01:51So basically they absorb CO2 and they transform it in oxygen just with water and light.
01:59We can use these natural abilities or the photosynthesis in a different environment
02:05where usually plants or other organisms cannot grow or would be too problematic to grow.
02:11So for example on facades of buildings or we can shape them in different shapes so to
02:15use it for filtration systems where we can find most likely CO2 emissions in cities.
02:22And it's also a place where many people live indoor so basically we can find two good spots.
02:30One is the absorption of CO2 and the other one to bring oxygen indoor where people need it.
02:37Downtown design has seen an increase of 300% in their registrations this year as well as
02:41an increase of 20% of exhibitors at the fair ensuring that the future is strong for the
02:46region's design industry.
