00:00There's a school of thought among people that, you know, that you should leave that kind
00:05of stuff out of, you know, sports.
00:09But the only time America ever listens to black people is when we're running, singing,
00:12dancing, or running, jumping, singing, dancing, or telling jokes.
00:15So I think it's incumbent on you as an entertainer if you have a message, and I think he did,
00:20to deliver it in a way that both entertains and informs, and I think the people that didn't
00:23get it didn't want to.
00:26Didn't want to.
00:27You know, they're Drake fans or Trump fans, and either way, who cares, either way.
00:30The only time America ever listens to us, if you look at the most pivotal changes in
00:35American history, they've been at the behest of sports.
00:37Muhammad Ali, what he did.
00:39LeBron James, what he did.
00:41You know, all of those movies were started by athletes who had a form, and they used
00:45it to bring awareness.
00:46So if they don't like what's happening, find another sport.
00:49You can watch bass fishing, you know, but it's the Super Bowl, and there's no way you're
00:55not going to see black exits.
00:56I didn't think it was all about Drake at all.
00:57I thought it was a very subversive, there's a reason, the symbolism of Sam Jackson, the
01:02symbolism of the flag, the game that he was on, the jails, I mean, it all, you know, here's
01:10the thing about America.
01:11They can erase our history, but they damn sure can't stop us from making it.
01:14And I think that what he did was of the moment and of the culture.
01:18I think it was subversive, the people who were going to get it, who vibrated on his
01:23frequency got it, and I think enough of them got it where they were offended by it.
01:27The National Anthem, the black National Anthem, they had to sit up there and watch Kendrick
01:30Lamar be subversive and brilliant, and it was done in front of a guy who's been trying
01:35to kill our history since the 20th, and he had to sit up there and watch us be black
01:39and fly, and I loved it.
01:42It was a bad time to be Drake, or it was a bad time to be Drake on my home zone.
01:47The game is culture, it's the culture, see.
01:51It's the crown achievement of black athletics, it's cultural.
01:55So everything that is cultural about America is black people, everything.
02:02Everything that they don't like about America is them, but everything about who we are and
02:06how cool we are and the trendsetter we are comes from us, everything.
02:11The days when you can just put anybody up there and think that people are going to rock
02:15with them, I don't think those will happen anymore.
02:17It's very few people that'll make everybody sit down and listen.
02:21It's very few people that'll make everybody sit down and listen.
02:22It's very few people that'll make everybody sit down and listen.
02:23It's very few people that'll make everybody sit down and listen.
