00:00I want you to tell us a little bit about the Seaboom project and how you guys at Recruit
00:29got involved.
00:30Yeah, we're always looking at ways of trying to improve our natural environment and one
00:37of our projects is around looking at litter and looking at the composition of it to understand
00:43how we can make interventions to stop it being there in the first place.
00:47So one of the biggest problems around here is the litter you can see visually, so land-based
00:52litter.
00:53What the Seabin does is take litter from the top of the surface of the water as it's going
00:57through before it sinks and captures it in a bin.
01:02So what we're able to do from that is obviously recover this litter which otherwise would
01:06have ended up in the river, but also we're going to take it away and analyse it to see
01:10what's in it.
01:12Once we do that, we can start to look at interventions to stop litter being there in the first place.
01:16Oh yeah, great, and is there a particular issue in this stretch of river with litter
01:21that's been found?
01:23I think there's issues in all areas of the river at different times.
01:28Anywhere near a city centre typically gets a lot of litter into it, but here was actually
01:33a very good spot for us because it's got a jetty we can attach the Seabin to.
01:38And how did the Seabin project come about?
01:40How did you get hold of the Seabin?
01:41It was actually in use in Ireland and we were offered it for free, so we managed to get
01:47some transportation in place and some funding from Viridor, Peterborough City Environmental
01:54Trust as well, and we're able to put it in place in Peterborough.
01:57So we're very excited to have it here.
