Watch: Port Fairy trio explain their Hampden league off-season program
Transcript
00:00Down here at St. Joey's Primary where some Port Ferry players have been working hard in the off-season, can you tell us a little bit about your extra sessions you've been doing?
00:09We've just sort of been trying to focus on fixing the weaknesses in our games and hopefully we can all play on the same side this year and do something special.
00:18Going to work on our offensive game, primarily me I think, just working around close quarters, ball movement and just executing everything as best I can, best in my ability.
00:31I reckon strength, we need to work on our physical strength I reckon.
00:37Just working on our fitness, just making sure we're just pushing ourselves harder every day pretty much, or every time we're here.
00:46And Kelby trying to push us, me and Ali, just to make sure we're getting better every day, make sure we're doing it right, make sure we're doing drills and just shutting up everything really.
00:59You guys have known each other for a long, long time, obviously two brothers and a best friend here. How important is it for you guys to sort of be doing this together and trying to reach your goals together?
01:09I think it's great. I know with these boys, if I see them doing something, I'm like, I'm going to do something, I'm going to do more.
01:15It's great to compete against them and just have them, you know, a couple of brothers and just know they're going to be working hard so it's going to make me work hard to push you to the next level.
01:28And you've been doing this before Christmas, pretty much after the season you were down here. What are the major improvements you've noticed?
01:35Working on me, myself and I reckon the others are already pretty good at it. Carrying the ball and being able to accelerate and take off with the ball in hand.
01:43And I reckon Kelby and Mitchie have gotten their strength up, being able to put pressure on and tackle.
01:50I know for me, especially, I was already a pretty good kick, but I'm trying to work on just keeping my head over the ball a bit because that will just help with my consistency.
01:58And also, as Ali said, I just need to put my head over the ball more.
02:02Mine is definitely me finishing.
02:05I've lost a bit of speed, I've lost a bit of grip, but I'm slowly gaining it back.
02:10But it's mainly my fitness, if I'm not in the best moment where it is.
02:14Really, when it comes to footy, I'm usually the one that's always a bit slow.
02:19No worries, well best of luck guys.
02:22Thanks so much, appreciate it.
