Train passengers are facing six weeks of travel disruptions due to engineering works. East coast main line services between Newcastle and Northallerton in Yorkshire, are being diverted which will result in longer journeys or bus replacements for passengers. There’ll also be no trains to or from Darlington or Durham over the affected weekends, network rail have said.

00:00The projects are part of the £140 million regeneration of Darlington Station, which
00:06will see a new step-free footbridge and the creation of walkways beside the line around
00:10Durham Station.
00:12The old Allardeen Bridge in Gateshead will also be demolished as part of the National
00:16Highway's A1 upgrade.
00:18The weekend disruption will also hit thousands of Newcastle United fans travelling to London
00:23for the League Cup final at Wembley that takes place on the 16th March.
00:28Initially, Network Rail said they would work with LNER to see as many services as possible
00:33run, but they've since said it would cost several million pounds to change the plans
00:37now.
00:38LNER, Lumo, Grand Central, Norvin, TransPennine Express and Cross Country Services are operating
00:45a reduced service and have put on various bus replacement services.
00:50With quite a large proportion of the North East being affected by these temporary closures
00:54and delays, we asked your thoughts on this.
00:57Do you want, we need to book our tickets actually, and especially given what you've just said
01:01about there being cancellations for the next six weeks as we'll be going home for Easter.
01:05So yeah, I mean the LNER trains are nice, but they're just way too expensive, like you
01:11compare the prices of trains in the UK to across Europe, it's just ridiculous.
01:17Yeah, I know, last night I came on a rail replacement bus from York and they had like
01:25a 40 minute delay to the rail replacement bus in the rain, so we were standing in the
01:28rain for like 40 minutes, so it does, it's an issue in the sense that when you've made,
01:32we don't have jobs right now, so we don't have commitments that way, but if we have
01:36plans, like we do have to go to London next week, so we do have to take a rail replacement
01:39bus.
01:40Yeah.
01:41So that's an issue because when you've paid a certain amount for a train and then you're
01:44kind of having to like get, you're not getting your money's worth.
01:48Yeah, whatsoever, that's a little bit of an issue.
01:50Our professors and our teachers as well, sometimes they travel in and if there's like
01:55train strikes coming from wherever they are, it cancels our lessons, it cancels our learning
01:59as well, so.
