00:00All right, we're getting into it right here on Radio Row. Kevin Walsh with Marcus Harper, Oregon Ducks, The Big Mark Show.
00:06Yes, sir. Three years no sacks. He's already...
00:08Let me know how we're feeling out here in New Orleans. Man, we're feeling great, man. It's the first time in New Orleans, baby.
00:12So I'm doing my thing, man.
00:15Let's talk just a little bit kind of just early pre-draft process, obviously.
00:20You know, it's it's gonna be a big challenge. Yeah, but you had a great career at Oregon.
00:25How's kind of the the early steps going? Yeah, it's new, it's different.
00:30Because I'm not obviously in Oregon and things like that.
00:32But it's pretty similar to what I was already doing, like the very tight regimented way I was going about things is fairly similar.
00:39Yeah, so yeah, it's kind of it's kind of the same thing I was going, but it's kind of
00:43putting it into reality until, okay, this is actually what I'm doing now. Like this isn't like, okay, prep again.
00:49Where it was like, I'm prepping for spring ball. This is like, no, you're prepping for like the real deal now.
00:52So it's all good. And then and then we're finding the balance to still do
00:56some of the stuff here. Let people know, kind of like, you know, the big marks or whatever thing you got going on.
01:00Yeah, I mean, so I did the big mark show on the past season with the Oregon Ducks.
01:03It was kind of a nice little insider just to see and give guys a platform to do something beyond the helmet.
01:08You know, a lot of times we always talked about like what we do in the helmet 24-7 and I got
01:13blessed with opportunity to be, you know, just kind of give insight and see what we like to do outside of the helmet.
01:18So I had our equipment manager, Kenny Farr, come on. I had Evan Stewart come on.
01:22Yeah.
01:22And just give guys a platform to tell their stories and kind of let people know what they're about outside of what football does.
01:27I can tell
01:30that you're very supportive though of your crew from just afar, but you know, you do the Twitter scroll quick, right?
01:36Yeah.
01:37It's not a ton of
01:40markets. It's a ton of, no, look at my guys getting it. And I think that that's a nice thing to see.
01:45Yeah, because I mean
01:46notoriously, a lot of my guys don't, you know, they're not, they don't like, their hobby isn't this, you know,
01:51they don't like talking and things like that.
01:53And a lot of guys, they get thrown underneath the radar and, you know, a lot of things won't get talked about.
01:58And so I know since I'm a guy, you know, I like seeing my guys succeed as much as I like seeing myself succeed as well.
02:03So, man, I'm gonna give a shout out to whenever I can. So all the guys that did good at the Senior Bowl, Basa,
02:07Josh Connerly, go do your thing.
02:10Teeford, Tez, everyone, Dylan, everyone doing their thing. So, I mean, they're not gonna say it. I'm gonna say it for them.
02:15Yeah, because everybody needs their flowers. Absolutely. Now, look, it's a, it's a loaded group, especially on the offensive side of the ball.
02:21I brought it up briefly to you before we got going. Yeah.
02:24For us and what we do here, the new college football playoff format was exciting. Yeah.
02:29In my eyes, though, immediately when it's announced, I'm like, oh, we got a couple things wrong here. Yeah.
02:34First of all, when you're the number one team and you guys were, you were the only unbeaten power comp, right? So number one, your first game,
02:41long delay, you're playing Ohio State. Yeah.
02:45You know, how did that feel for you guys? Because for us, we, first of all, we knew that that format was, needed to be fixed.
02:50Yeah. Right? And you guys are willing to play anybody, but it had to be a little bit off-putting the way that all broke, right?
02:56Yeah, I mean, we couldn't really focus on that because no matter how much we whined and kind of complained,
03:00no one was gonna change the fact that we had to play, you know, that we had that route, you know, to try to go to the playoff.
03:05Yeah. We kind of changed the perspective, like, okay,
03:08they tried to throw the kitchen sink at us and we were able to come out of the Big Ten our first year with a championship.
03:13Y'all tried to throw the kitchen sink, the ice cream truck, and the fat lady because she didn't stop singing at us.
03:20And, you know, we didn't get the job done, but if we would have been able to do that,
03:23what would you have been able to say now? So, you guys win in the Big Ten championship. Yeah. From the perspective of,
03:29you know this, you were there, so the Pac-12 got no respect. Yep. Right? You come in,
03:34you put the Big Ten on notice. So from that angle of it, amazing.
03:37When you think about your guys' season though, right? The scope and what you wanted to accomplish. Yeah.
03:43How much does how we won the Big Ten championship cover up for, ultimately, what had to be a disappointing end result? Yeah.
03:51You still can't take away how dominant we were. Like you said, the Pac-12 doesn't get a lot of
03:55notoriety because it's kind of perceived as like the softer conference, you know.
04:01So, we came in and knocked the doors down. Yeah. We kicked the doors off the hinges our first year.
04:05And so... Which I loved. I really did. We have, you know, one of our guys, he's a big Big Ten guy.
04:11Yeah. And I was like, listen man,
04:14that 10-7 stuff is cute. Like, let's start moving the football around here. Yeah. And from that, I appreciate it.
04:19But I am of the mind, but you can tell me if I'm wrong, because you played in one and you won it this year.
04:24I feel if we can try and get this schedule right,
04:27we can remove the conference championship games. Because ultimately, you guys were unbeaten. We know that. We can do a regular season champion.
04:34Right? They do that in college hoops. You guys deserve that recognition. Yeah. But
04:39realistically, what did you gain by beating Penn State? Other than, again, listen, we did, but yeah, we knew you're better than Penn State.
04:46You know, like Penn State's playing games where they're
04:5014-point favorites. I
04:52just, I think to me, do you think I'm a little drastic in saying that they can get rid of conference title games?
04:56I think so. I think you need to have...
04:59You got to give guys their flowers. You know, like, I think that first, I think you got to give it to them.
05:04You got to keep a conference championship in. What I think what we should alter though,
05:08me personally,
05:09that gap between the last conference championship game and the first round of the playoff, you got to shorten that for sure. Okay.
05:17But I think that's the only thing that needs to be changed.
05:19I mean, other than that, look, we can make a million-to-one, like,
05:22reasons as to, you know, it was, you know, rigged or whatever.
05:25It wasn't in our favor and things like that. Like, at the end of the day,
05:27we still had the strap on our helmets to play 60 minutes of football.
05:30It just didn't turn our way over that day. I'm not gonna, you know, cry about it and things like that.
05:35Look, that was a great Ohio State team, and they won a national championship, and we beat the national champions.
05:401,000%. 1,000%.
05:42Look, our season, as much as
05:44ideally we want to, like, kind of look at it as, like, a down, you know,
05:47it wasn't a bad year, but we accomplished a lot for, you know, our first year.
05:51The only other thing I'm curious of is, because there's, could there be expansion? I think if they'd went 1-16 then,
05:59you guys ought,
06:01more than anyone, deserve to play a home playoff game in front of your fans. Yeah. Wouldn't you want that opportunity?
06:07Absolutely, because, I mean,
06:09we kind of got that early in the season when we played Ohio State the first time. Like, that first Ohio State game
06:13that we played in Austin, essentially, you could say was a playoff game. It had the playoff atmosphere.
06:18I'm talking about, they were, everyone was shoulder-to-shoulder, cheek-to-cheek in that thing.
06:22I would have liked to be a home, have a home game as a number one seed. Kind of, you got an award.
06:28Yeah. You know, you went through this entire gauntlet of a season. Yes! And, you know, you know, Oregon is,
06:34I mean, California is still a home game for Oregon, but when you got a big fan base that travel,
06:40I would have liked to have a home game. Yeah, I like that. It's, it's different when you're in Eugene, Oregon. Yeah.
06:45Yeah, it is different for sure. Yeah. Yeah. Man, that, that would, that would be something there, man.
06:50I would love to see that. Let me ask you this quickly.
06:53Do you see any
06:55other aspects of Bo's game, right, that you think, as Dylan now tries to make that next step to the pro level,
07:03where you could see some similarities and things can kind of pop for Dylan at the next level?
07:07Just the way they conduct themselves on the field and like how they command the offense.
07:11Both of them, they really command the offense and like, that's their offense. Like, no one's gonna take that from them.
07:16And I think Bo did a great job of kind of taking that same energy that he had his last year in college and
07:21transitioning that into his first year in the NFL, and he was able to take the Broncos to, I'm pretty sure no one thought that
07:26they were gonna do what they were gonna do, but that's, that's the Bo Nicks factor.
07:28Yeah. And when, if and when Dylan does that same exact thing,
07:31I know skies a limit for him because they are both great quarterbacks. Yeah, that's awesome, man. Yeah. Marcus Harper, we're out here on Radio Row.
07:39The Big Mark Show, who knows what's next? I'm sure you'll put people on notice, especially during the draft process. Absolutely. All right, appreciate it.
07:46Again, keep it here at Sports Grid.
