00:02In the meantime, in observance of the World Wetland Day,

00:06several Asian box turtles and a Philippine hawk eagle

00:10were released back into their natural habitats.

00:13The animals had previously been cared for at a wildlife rescue center.

00:18The release highlights the importance of preserving wildlife

00:22and maintaining a balanced ecosystem.

00:32The Department of Environment and Natural Resources Region 2 released

00:36five Asian box turtles back to their natural habitat in Santa Margarita,

00:40Baggaugadayan as part of the World Wetland Day

00:43observance. Before the release, they were temporarily turned over to the

00:47Rogelio B. Baggayan Nature Park and Wildlife Center in Tugigaro City,

00:51a temporary shelter for the confiscated or surrendered wildlife for proper care

00:56and treatment. Regional Executive Director Gwendolyn

00:59Bambalon said the Asian box turtles play a vital role

01:02in the ecosystem as they disperse seeds through the fruits and other forest

01:06plants that they eat, allowing natural regeneration of the

01:10forest lands. Meanwhile, a Philippine hawk eagle was

01:14also released by DNR in the forest of Dinapigi, Isabela.

01:18The eagle was surrendered to the authorities by an ITA who caught the

01:22wildlife species. The International Union for

01:26Conservation of Nature or IUCN includes Philippine eagle in the red list

01:30as an endangered bird species. Director Bambalon in an interview said

01:35all surrendered or confiscated wildlife must be released

01:39back to their natural habitat.

01:56wildlife we have to release it back to the wild.

01:59The region's environmental chief continuously appeals to the public

02:04for the protection and conservation of the wildlife species
