00:00So one of my roles as Police and Crime Commissioner is to propose a precept increase. This is the local council tax
00:08increase to support policing. Here in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough we roughly get half of our funding from government, the other half
00:16comes from local taxpayers.
00:18The last thing I ever want to do is to raise people's taxes, particularly in the current climate. But the simple fact is this,
00:26without asking for the panel to support this £14, just under £14 precept increase for the average bandy house, we would not be able to
00:36balance our budget here in Cambridgeshire. The constabulary would therefore have to make cuts. It's as simple as that.
00:43My role is to keep our community safe, my role is to give the resources to the Chief Constable to ensure that he can do that
00:50and therefore I'm really pleased we made the case to the Police and Crime Panel today who unanimously supported my proposal.
