00:00The country maintained the rapid movement of the price of goods and services this January, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority,
00:07while continuing to lower the price of rice since December last year.
00:12The details from Bernard Ferrer.
00:16The country's headline inflation remains stable at 2.9 percent this January 2025.
00:21The same is expected this December 2024, according to the latest report of the Philippine Statistics Authority.
00:29The main factors contributing to the overall inflation are food and non-alcoholic beverages with 3.8 percent inflation and 50.3 percent share.
00:41Next is housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels with 2.2 percent inflation and 16.5 percent share.
00:50And restaurants and accommodation services with 3.2 percent inflation and 10.8 percent share.
00:58Five of the main commodities contributing to the overall inflation are tomatoes with 155.7 percent inflation,
01:07restaurants, cafes and others with 3.3 percent inflation,
01:12rentals in houses with 2.0 percent inflation,
01:16pork with 8.4 percent inflation,
01:19chicken with 8.4 percent inflation.
01:23Meanwhile, some products have recorded a slower price increase.
01:28Corn with 3.6 percent inflation,
01:31flour, bread and other products with 1.7 percent inflation,
01:36fruits and nuts, including bananas, with 6.5 percent inflation.
01:41Positive news is also the negative 2.3 percent inflation in rice, which is showing a decrease in price since December 2024.
01:50We are tracking three items, regular meal, wheel meal, and special rice.
01:54For all the three items under rice, their inflation rate is negative year-on-year and month-on-month.
02:03In the National Capital Region or NCR, inflation decreased by 2.8 percent in January 2025.
02:10In the regions outside the NCR, the highest inflation was in Region 2 or Cagayan Valley, 5.1 percent from 4.6 percent in December 2024.
02:21The lowest inflation was in Region 12 or Soxergen, 1.1 percent from 1.2 percent in December 2024.
02:29According to the National Economic and Development Authority Secretary Arsenio Balisacan,
02:34a stable inflation rate will make the government's programs more effective
02:39in maintaining the price of goods according to the target of the Philippine Development Plan 2023-2028.
