00:48There is a motion to direct the Secretary General to immediately endorse to the Senate
00:53the impeachment complaint.
00:55Having been filed by more than one-third of the membership of the House, or a total of
01:00215 members, is there any objection?
01:05The chair hears none.
01:06The motion is approved.
01:08The Secretary General is so directed, the session is suspended.
01:14The House of Representatives impeaches Vice President Sara Duterte Wednesday, February 5.
01:19215 lawmakers, or more than two-thirds of the House's 306 members, backed the resolution
01:25that set forth the articles of impeachment to be transmitted to the Senate.
01:29The ball is now in the Court of the Senate, which has to conduct a trial that may either
01:33result in Duterte's conviction or acquittal.
01:36The move comes nearly two months since three impeachment complaints were lodged against
01:39Duterte at the lower chamber.
01:41It has been nearly five months since the House's inquiry into her alleged misuse of public
01:45funds as the country's second-highest official and education secretary.
01:49The months-long investigation uncovered how she let security personnel handle the confidential
01:54funds in apparent violation of government rules, and how the receipts she submitted
01:58to state auditors were signed by dubious people with no birth records.
02:04The Banco Central ng Pilipinas urges banks to future-proof its security systems, as one-time
02:09passwords or OTPs may become obsolete in the future.
02:12BSP Deputy Governor Elmore Capule says upgrading the systems will prevent clients from being
02:17defrauded.
02:18He adds the BSP will assess the upgrades depending on the type of bank, as some banks, such as
02:22rural or thrift banks, may be satisfied with OTPs, while digital banks need a more robust
02:28and advanced system.
02:29Capule did not name specific alternatives for authentication, but mentioned methods
02:34such as passwordless authentication.
02:36Neighboring central banks, such as Singapore's Monetary Authority, have begun gradually phasing
02:40out OTPs for bank account logins as local cases of financial scams rise.
02:46In 2024 alone, the Philippine Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center received over 10,000
02:51scam complaints, with victims losing about P198 million.
02:58U.S. President Donald Trump says on Tuesday, February 4, the U.S. will take control of
03:03war-torn Gaza and transform it into a Riviera of the Middle East after Palestinians are
03:07resettled elsewhere.
03:08The U.S. will take over the Gaza Strip, and we will do a job with it, too.
03:14We're going to develop it, create thousands and thousands of jobs, and it'll be something
03:19that the entire Middle East can be very proud of.
03:22This after Trump's surprising proposal earlier on Tuesday to permanently resettle Palestinians
03:26from Gaza to neighboring countries.
03:29However, Trump does not address how the U.S. could legally take long-term control over Gaza.
03:34Hamas official Sami Abou Zouri says Trump's remarks on taking control of Gaza are ridiculous
03:39and absurd and could destabilize the Middle East.
03:42The statement also draws swift condemnation from Saudi Arabia, while rejecting any effort
03:46to displace Palestinians from their land.
03:49A U.S. judge on Monday, February 3, warns the lawyers representing Justin Baldoni and
03:55Blake Lively to keep their legal battle out of the public eye.
03:59The judge imposes a New York state rule barring out-of-court statements that could affect
04:03the case's outcome.
04:04The civil lawsuit stems from Lively claiming that Baldoni sexually harassed her while filming
04:09It Ends With Us.
04:11Lively sued Baldoni and his production company, Wayfarer Studios, on December 31, accusing
04:16Baldoni of kissing her beyond the script's requirements and engaging in a public smear
04:20campaign in retaliation for her harassment claims.
04:24Lively's lawyer, Michael Gottlieb, argues Baldoni's lawyer, Brian Friedman, had breached
04:28professional ethics by accusing Lively of bullying.
04:31Friedman says his remarks were in response to a December 21 article in The New York Times
04:36that quote, "...completely devastated Baldoni."
04:39Baldoni and Wayfarer also sued The New York Times for $250 million, accusing the newspaper
04:45of defamation for uncritically taking Lively's side in the December 21 article.
04:51English author Neil Gaiman and his estranged wife, Amanda Palmer, are facing lawsuits filed
04:56by New Zealand woman Scarlett Pavlovich.
04:59Pavlovich accuses the couple of sexual abuse and human trafficking while she worked for
05:03them as a nanny and babysitter, seeking millions in damages.
05:07She claims Gaiman repeatedly raped her while she worked for him and Palmer in 2022, causing
05:11significant harm.
05:13Court papers allege that Palmer was aware of Pavlovich's vulnerability but failed to
05:17warn her about Gaiman's history of predatory behavior.
05:20The two are named as defendants in Pavlovich's lawsuit filed in federal court in Madison,
05:24Wisconsin, while Palmer is the sole defendant in separate lawsuits filed by Pavlovich in
05:28Manhattan and Boston.
05:30Gaiman denies the allegations of inappropriate sexual conduct, claiming these were consensual.
