Rather than kick rubbish away from under his shoe, a Yorkshire artist makes a conscious effort to pick it up and re-use it; he's even used rubbish to upcycle shoes.
James Owen Thomas has made it his mission to go litter picking and reuse the rubbish he collects as materials for his artwork.
When he saw tags from horse racing which people use to get into the right stand being discarded, James used the cardboard to embellish a pair of stiletto heels, transforming scrap into a masterpiece.

00:00Rather than kick rubbish away from under his shoe a Yorkshire artist makes a
00:05conscious effort to pick it up and reuse it. He's even used rubbish to upcycle
00:12some shoes. James Owen Thomas has his own gallery out in North Yorkshire where all
00:19these incredible creations are made out of litter and recycled goods. He now
00:26sells prints of his work as well as the originals made out of different items
00:32that he's collected over the years. What would have been trash has now become
00:39these incredible pieces of art including these stiletto shoes made out of the old
00:47racecar tags. From an early age James had a passion for litter picking. He hated
00:54the fact that things were just being discarded on the side of roads. He later
00:59decided to use these pieces of rubbish, sometimes punching holes into old race
01:06cards and lottery tickets, to create incredible pieces of art. He's now
01:13sharing his skills with others so as well as being commissioned to create his
01:18own artwork he's leading a range of workshops where he inspires people to
01:23shred, punch holes into different pieces of litter so we can reuse them to create
01:29some incredible things.
