00:00One thing that really stood out to me in Myles Garrett's statement was a specific line.
00:05I know you paraphrased, allow me to quote,
00:09quote, the goal was never to go from Cleveland to Canton.
00:13It has always been to compete for and win a Super Bowl.
00:17The reason I highlight that exact wording is because of the idea that,
00:23as you were alluding to last week in Mobile,
00:26in the build-up to the Senior Bowl, to look at the next talent about to arrive in the NFL.
00:32Brown's GM, Andrew Barry, said those exact words
00:36as he did at the end-of-the-year press conference in early January.
00:41Basically, the idea that we expect Myles Garrett to remain a Brown for the entirety of his career,
00:48and he'll have a direct path from Cleveland, Ohio to Canton, Ohio,
00:53of course, the home of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
00:56So for Myles Garrett to exactly use those words, Geronery,
01:00was a direct rebuff, if you will, of his GM,
01:03that I am not interested in the individual accolades.
01:07I already have those.
01:08I am the reigning defensive player of the year.
01:11I have been first-team All-Pro four of the previous five NFL campaigns.
01:15I'm good.
01:16I don't want to go 3-and-14-and-team anymore.
01:20I want to go 14-and-3 and compete for a Lombardi trophy.
01:25And I think, Joe, Myles Garrett ushering this now
01:28is a direct sign of where things are headed for Cleveland.
01:32And that's disaster.
01:33They hold the second overall pick.
01:35They can rebuild.
01:36But from the Browns' organization perspective,
01:39it actually would make a ton of sense to trade Myles Garrett,
01:44despite the fact he is one of the three best defensive players in the NFL year-in, year-out,
01:50because you can recruit some desperately-needed draft assets in Cleveland,
01:54have a couple of first-round picks or early-round draft selections
01:58to try to fill out the roster elsewhere.
02:00Because of the Deshaun Watson deal, they gave up three first-round picks.
02:04They are still financially liable to this guy for over $100 million
02:09through the duration of his fully-guaranteed contract.
02:12They are in a precarious position.
02:14I actually think dispatching of Myles Garrett would help the Browns
02:18individually, help Garrett as well.
02:21Yeah, but the problem is the GM, Barry, also known for trading for Deshaun Watson, Ben,
02:29basically, if you trade Garrett and move on from them,
02:33then I don't know how he maintains his job.
02:36But who can blame Garrett at this point?
02:38I mean, when he got with the team, Ben, I don't think, what were they, 0-17, 0-6?
02:43Exactly.
02:45It's always been a rebuild.
02:46And then they spent all this money last year, and one of the highest payrolls in the NFL,
02:51and what did they get?
02:52Three wins.
02:53So I don't blame them for wanting to get out of dodge.
