The incident of 41 workers trapped in the Silkyara Tunnel in Uttarakhand, India, is a significant event in recent history. On November 12, 2023, a section of the under-construction tunnel collapsed, trapping the workers inside. The collapse was caused by a landslide, which blocked the exit and left them stranded.

History and Rescue Efforts

The Silkyara Tunnel, part of India's Char Dham Highway project, was being built to improve connectivity to sacred pilgrimage sites. However, due to geological instability, a landslide caused a section of the tunnel to cave in. Rescue operations began immediately, involving multiple agencies, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the Indian Army, and international experts.

The rescue operation lasted for 17 days, facing numerous challenges such as falling debris, drilling difficulties, and oxygen supply issues. Finally, on November 28, 2023, all 41 workers were safely rescued, marking it as one of the most challenging tunnel rescue missions in India's history.

This incident highlighted the need for improved geological surveys, safety measures, and better tunnel construction techniques in high-risk areas.
