00:00Madam Principal Deputy Speaker, I couldn't agree more with some aspects of the motion
00:05before us today. It is particularly welcome that it notes the lack of trust and accountability
00:11in our politics. Last week, this House debated a motion which lambasted the report produced
00:17into the Michael McMonigle scandal. Without a vote, it was passed. We all agreed that
00:23the conclusions drawn in what was supposedly a robust probe into the abuse of public money
00:28in this building simply were not credible. What now? Will there be a fresh report? Will
00:36the First Minister, whose party provided the only voice to say the report was sound, return
00:42to this House and correct the record? If Ms O'Neill believes we should accept the report,
00:48she accepts that on 7 October she misled this House, something which should be a resigning
00:54matter. Will the other parties insist that, as called for in the motion, a robust audit
01:00system is put in place to ensure that Sinn Féin creaming off public money to fund their
01:06press operation does not continue?
01:08Mr Gaston, could you return to the subject of the debate, please?
01:15Thank you, Principal Deputy Speaker. Will they put the process before trust and accountability?
01:21Standing outside this Chamber, we have seen efforts to ensure trust and accountability
01:26were paramount in our committees. Sadly, that is not the case. We saw a junior minister
01:32shielded by a committee chair. Ms Bradshaw even asked if she had seen a paedophile enter
01:38this building.
01:39Mr Gaston, take your seat. I am asking you again to return to the substance of the motion.
01:46If you persist in not doing so, alas, you will not be called to speak.
01:52This is all about trust and accountability. I am given instances and examples of where
01:57trust and accountability have been trashed in this place, inside this Chamber and in
02:03the TEO Committee, of which you are a member.
02:06Take your seat.
02:07This opportunity should be allowed to progress my concerns.
02:11Take your seat. Thank you. I have persistently asked you to return to the subject of the
02:17motion, which the Official Opposition had the ability to put down. It is their motion.
02:26Do not disrespect their motion and do not disrespect me either.
02:30So I am not going to call you to speak.
