00:00Foreign Minister Mohamed Hassan has proposed the creation of an ASEAN stock exchange to
00:06bolster the 10-nation group's economic growth.
00:10He said a regional stock exchange could comprise the top 50 blue-chip companies from each ASEAN
00:15country and that they could be given special incentives and tariff treatment.
00:20He explained that the setup would enable ASEAN-listed companies to raise funds across all ASEAN
00:25markets while attracting capital from other regions, as investors worldwide are drawn
00:30to trade on the ASEAN bourse.
00:33Mohamed said ASEAN, currently the fifth-largest economy in the world, could rise to the fourth-largest
00:38by 2030, driven by robust growth initiatives like the stock exchange.
00:44He said the move would contribute to making ASEAN a more unified, harmonious and developed
00:48economic bloc.
00:50Mohamed also said it was imperative that ASEAN nations work together instead of competing
00:55against each other, citing the example of Malaysia and Indonesia, which are the two
00:59largest palm oil producers in the world.
01:03He suggested that an ASEAN commodity exchange could ensure that nobody can dictate the nation's
01:08trade terms while leveraging its vast market to gain a significant global advantage.
