00:00It is a hot one here in Adelaide today, and among those cooling down is a sea of Marilyn
00:08Monroe look-alikes. Hundreds of men, women, boys and girls dressed up in their blonde
00:14wigs, red lippy and their beauty spots, all to raise money for cancer treatment, prevention
00:21and research and support services. It started out in 2014, where just 50 people dressed
00:28up as Marilyn Monroe swam around this Brighton jetty to raise money in honour of the founder
00:33Sarah Tinney's mum and her cancer battle. Well, this year she was awarded an Order of
00:38Australia medal for her efforts, raising $1.5 million to date, and this year it has reached
00:45capacity. This is what Sarah has to say about how the event has grown.
00:49I couldn't think of anything that you've seen today 12 years ago. This has exceeded my expectations,
00:55and I think that I've usually got pretty big ideas, but this is bigger and better than
01:00I could ever have thought. Some Marilyns have their own cancer battle
01:05and others are doing it for someone they love, but these bold and fabulous darlings are fighting
01:11for a good cause and they're having a very good time doing it.
