00:00It's about honouring tradition. The Lunar New Year traditions go back hundreds and hundreds,
00:12thousands of years and it's so important that we stay connected to our culture, connected
00:16to each other, but bringing it in a way where it's contemporary now.
00:20From performers dancing away evil spirits...
00:23I think it's really cool and sometimes I think I want to do it when I grow up.
00:29...to extinguishing frustrations from the year before. Thousands of Canberrans looking
00:34to share in good fortune.
00:36Everybody's celebrating, everybody's happy, particularly we want to share the Chinese
00:42culture with Australians.
00:44Australia being such a big multicultural community, I think it's one of the things where people
00:50learn about each other and be more knowledgeable. It's not an age of ignorance anymore.
00:552025 is the year of the wood snake. This zodiac is considered as the most tenacious
01:01of the 12 signs, promising to bring transformation, joy and change. Those lucky enough to be born
01:07in the year of the snake are said to be enigmatic and uncanny.
01:11The snake behind us is a commissioned piece that was created by Kotoya Studios. Hiroshi
01:16Hiyamaguchi made this and it is the most useful testament to the year of the snake. What they
01:23did is they actually took wood from trees that had been cut down from properties around
01:28Canberra and recycled it and created it into this amazing statue.
01:32Welcoming the next chapter.
