00:00Hello I'm Nathan Dewder, I'm here with Aston Villa reporter, here's Mr. Matt Mayer.
00:03Matt, West Midlands Derby, Wolves 2, Aston Villa 0, can Villa have too many
00:08complaints? No I don't think so because I think Wolves probably should have been
00:13out of sight at half-time. Villa were much better in the second half, though you say
00:18they couldn't have been much worse, and you know they probably
00:24feel on the second half performance that you know
00:27they might have got an equaliser, but you know they didn't, did they really test
00:31Jose Sarr all that much? A couple of shots maybe towards the end.
00:35A big Marlon chance at the end was you know that was the best passing move but it was shots
00:38from outside the box. They've just not really done enough have they and then
00:42obviously the goal at the end you know you know sealed it for Wolves so
00:47no I don't think they can have too many too many complaints. I did think it was a
00:51deserved win for Wolves, albeit they made kind of hard work of it
00:54or harder work of it than they probably needed to. And for Villa, kind of the
01:00performance that I was expecting if I'm being perfectly honest. They have
01:05been on weekends you know after the Champions League midweeks in particular
01:12but particularly in the last few weeks they have looked they have looked tired.
01:14You know today was very similar to the Arsenal game in some ways where they
01:19just, you know, Arsenal the first hour they just didn't really turn up but
01:22then suddenly sparked a life and they sparked a life a bit in the second half
01:26today but didn't really have the same kind of impact and you know they've just
01:30run out of players. Olly Watkins going off at half-time.
01:34Watkins is on the pitch second half and I think the changes did work.
01:37It brought a bit more energy and I think if Watkins gets the
01:42chance that Marlon has it's probably 1-1 and who knows you know I mean I
01:49think I thought Wolves were you know very good in the first half and then in
01:53the second half kind of almost playing with fire a bit but at the same time so
01:59uncomfortable I mean I think you know the Wolves, you know, Wolves are better
02:03without the ball aren't they? They don't really want the
02:06ball so you know actually seeing him back hitting on the counter you know
02:12probably soon. Not too many times you see a quadruple substitution at half-time in
02:16a Premier League game? No I think but I think it was probably needed and I
02:19think it worked. I think Villa were better you know much
02:23improved but just didn't really you know you know that there isn't people talk
02:28about the defence a lot and they do concede too many goals but that's just me
02:32they're not scoring you know they don't score enough they're not
02:35creating the chances so it's no surprise that they are you know in the market
02:40absolutely I mean as we said before this was a good time for Wolves to
02:45play Villa. You played Villa three weeks ago and you've got John Durham coming off
02:49the bench you've got you know you've got Ross Bartley, people like that
02:54coming on but Villa just don't have it. They've got defenders. The big thing for Villa
02:59apart from the transfer window and the fact that they are going to well yeah
03:01midfielder playing at centre-back, a kid who's never played a top flight game in his life
03:06so you know it's not that it's not a massive surprise that Villa
03:10weren't quite on it today or were way off it let's be frank. But I think apart from the
03:15transfer window and the fact that they've got to be the time to make some
03:18sign-ins the big thing for them is a week without a game. A week without you
03:22know and a chance to have just a rest and draw breath and I think we all need
03:26it including including the journalists. At the same time will the
03:32hierarchy have much of a breath between now and 11 o'clock? No, I've just seen
03:38Monchi downstairs and two words he said was no rest. So I think him and
03:44Damian Vidigani are going to be you know next 48 hours they're going to be
03:50very very busy. It's been a very busy month and Villa have done a huge
03:53amount of business really through January. Uno Emery said yesterday it's not
03:57normal and I have to say you're doing this much work in January it just
04:03suggests that you didn't get the summer quite right. We know they were
04:05short. They came up short in terms of solidifying the right-hand side of the
04:09defence and that's what they're going to look to address you know but they've
04:13let players out like Diego Carlos, John Duran, Emery Buendia. Uno Emery has just been
04:17in the press conference so we need to replace those three players. So that's a
04:20defender, a playmaker and a forward. And we know who the forward is going to be.
04:25We pretty much know who the forward is going to be. Marcus Rashford of course is the secret that's come up a long time.
04:32So the latest update on that is there is an expectation this will get done in the next 24 hours.
04:37So what are we 9 o'clock? Is that a stunning sign at the side of this window if you said Marcus Rashford will be playing at Villa Park as a Villa player on loan. Would you quite believe it?
04:45Not really. I mean look there's a lot of questions you know it's not like it's
04:52it's a surprise that this deal is happening so late. The fact it's happening because Marcus Rashford has been available all month.
05:01You could have done this deal weeks ago which does perhaps suggest that maybe he's not the first choice.
05:07Sure of course. And there are some fairly major questions to be asked of Rashford.
05:14He has been frozen out at Manchester United for a reason.
05:20Man Utd need good players, they don't have many good players and he on his game is a very good player.
05:27So the fact that Ruben Amiri doesn't want him involved is a question.
05:32But no one's seen him outside Manchester United, you don't know what a new club's going to do for him.
05:36No, but clearly you know Unai Amiri thinks he can get the best out of him, can revitalise him.
05:40And the potential upside is such that they probably think it is worth taking on him as a person and the financials as well.
05:52It's a loan, it's not going to be a cheap deal in terms of the wages.
05:57There's every chance he's going to be coming in as the highest paid member of the dressing room.
06:01Villa aren't going to be paying his full wages but it sounds like they're going to be paying a fair amount.
06:08People will say there's no risk to this deal. I'm sorry but it's a work environment.
06:13There's risk in every signing, whether you think, what have we got to lose?
06:21You could sign someone else and it won't work out better but if this deal works for Villa then they're laughing.
06:27They're going to have an option to buy. You could have a terrific player, when he's on his game, one of the best players in the country.
06:35But there's also the potential that it's another Philip Coutinho or Danny Drinkwater on the sliding scale of loan moves.
06:47There is an element, the last 24 hours I've been thinking, this feels like the kind of deal Villa did five years ago.
06:57Where they would get a player from a big six club that was perhaps not completely firing.
07:06But this is a much stronger Villa team now, well it is when everybody's fit, so perhaps it might work.
07:14The thing for Villa is you look at the schedule over the next few weeks and suddenly it's the next two weeks at least,
07:21there's no midweek game, it's a chance to draw breath, potentially get a few players back and just reorganise.
07:31And take a breath and like you say, players coming back as well, Paolo Torres is coming back soon,
07:37Torres will be another month, you might see Torres and Mings against Tottenham next week, which will be huge.
07:45I think Boubacar Kamara today found out that it's a bit harder playing Premier League opposition than Celtic.
07:50But that's where Villa are, it's been trying to put your finger in all the holes and it just doesn't quite work.
08:02Kevin Danto looks like he's going to Wolves on loan, does that mean that Axel Di Sarsi could be on to come into Villa?
08:07Possibly, I'm going to be brutally honest here, there's an element of chaos about the way Villa do their transfer deals.
08:19I don't mean that in a particularly critical way, but they are opportunistic, so it could be somebody that we have not yet mentioned.
08:28Di Sarsi, that deal seems to have been sitting there for about a week and it's not gone through.
08:35Danso, I'm told, was not on Villa's radar, or if he was, it wasn't serious.
08:40I think if Villa really wanted Danso, they're probably getting over walls right now, you're probably going to pick Villa over walls.
08:51I don't know, but they desperately need a centre-back, they're getting a forward, a playmaker, we shall see.
09:01But it's going to be a fairly hectic 14 hours, Villa's players might be able to put their feet up, they're obviously going to be training,
09:11but they might be able to take a bit of a mental break.
09:13You can't, Matt.
09:14We can't, we're not allowed.
09:16Absolutely not.
09:17No, no, no, I know, I know.
09:19All those tomorrow.
09:19Looking forward to it, looking forward to it.
09:21You can't even go out and buy a pint and milk these guys, can you?
09:24It should be an interesting 48 hours, and Matt will bring you all the Aston Villa transfers, ins and outs, right the way up to 11 o'clock on Monday.
09:32Today, Wolves 2, Aston Villa 0.
