00:00There are several other Umanoy spies who were arrested in Palawan.

00:06Again, the National Security Council and Armed Forces of the Philippines

00:11denied the arrest of the spies and went to the Surveillance Operation.

00:17This is Patrick De Jesus of PTV in Balitang Pambansa.

00:22It is expected that more will be arrested because of the spies

00:26following the arrest of the Umanoy Chinese spy.

00:29The National Security Council said that there were two other spies arrested in Palawan

00:35because of the noise of some residents in their Umanong Kahinahinalang activity

00:40where evidence was also discovered.

00:44They went to our military bases, Coast Guard bases,

00:53where our ships are located, they are in nearby areas

01:00and they are placing equipment to be able to record the movement of military personnel.

01:09We have seen the extensive operations that they have been doing in the Philippines

01:13and slowly we are able to disrupt and to stop all of these activities in our country.

01:20Again, the NSC and AFP denied the arrest of the so-called spies

01:25but went to the Surveillance Operation.

01:31Don't downplay this because some are saying that this equipment is not high-tech.

01:36But what matters is the data that is being taken and how it's going to be used.

01:42We are saddened by what the Chinese Embassy and the Chinese Foreign Ministry said

01:48All of these are baseless accusations, all of this is not true and is just a lie.

01:53This was a case build-up, our government is not stupid.

01:57Retired Associate Justice Antonio Carpio supported the amendment of the laws

02:03in the Espionage Law of the Philippines that the NSC is pursuing

02:07and the implementation of the law in countering foreign interference and malign influence.

02:13We are now in the cyber age.

02:15We have to update really a lot of our criminal laws especially on national security.
