00:00Amy Schumer is everywhere, and it seems like the funny lady can do no wrong, right?
00:09Well, not quite.
00:10Despite her critical and commercial successes, there's a sketchy side to her famous sketch
00:15comedy.
00:16No apologies
00:17When Schumer landed her breakout set at Comedy Central's roast of Charlie Sheen in 2012,
00:22she unleashed a brutal joke on Jackass star Steve-O about the death of his friend and
00:27co-star Ryan Dunn in a drunk driving accident.
00:30But I truly am, no joke, sorry for the loss of your friend Ryan Dunn.
00:34I know you must have been thinking it could have been me, and I know we were all thinking,
00:37why wasn't it?
00:43When called out on what many regarded as an insensitive remark, Schumer shrugged it off
00:48and refused to back down.
00:50Steve-O's fans erupted.
00:51He discussed everything on The Big Jay Show at KRSQ Hot 101.9.
00:57He said Schumer's camp called to express remorse and asked for help soothing the hate
01:01mail.
01:02Steve-O obliged.
01:03And I was like, hey everybody, it was a roast, you know, where people say mean things to
01:08each other on purpose, like, you know, that silly little whore was just doing her job.
01:14Exactly.
01:15Schumer insisted she had no regrets, telling Laugh Spin,
01:18Quote,
01:19I did ask that his fans stop with the threats of ending my life, but I did not apologize
01:24for telling that joke.
01:25I don't see the hypocrisy.
01:27I'd like to continue being a comic and alive, but I absolutely from the bottom of my heart
01:31continue to not give a s**t about this.
01:34I wish him the best luck in his comedy career."
01:36End quote.
01:37Sorry not sorry
01:38So Schumer won't apologize for crossing the line, unless it might hurt her career.
01:43Fast forward to the summer of 2015.
01:46Some racially charged material from Schumer was called into question by The Guardian while
01:51she was promoting her then-upcoming film, Trainwreck.
01:54Schumer offered up a half-hearted apology on Twitter, writing,
01:57I used to do a lot of short dumb jokes like this.
02:00I played a dumb white girl on stage.
02:02I still do sometimes.
02:04Once I realized I had more eyes and ears on me and had an influence, I stopped telling
02:08jokes like that on stage.
02:10I am evolving as an artist.
02:12I am taking responsibility and hope I haven't hurt anyone.
02:15I apologize if I did."
02:17The sorry-you-were-offended tone wasn't lost on anyone who knew Schumer's history.
02:21To comedy fans, it read as selling out.
02:24To her critics, it read as selling out, too, but in a different way.
02:28Mixed messages
02:29When Glamour magazine included Amy Schumer in their 2016 She Get Any Size issue alongside
02:35plus-size stars Melissa McCarthy, Adele, and Ashley Graham, she expressed her dissatisfaction
02:40on Instagram.
02:41I think there's nothing wrong with being plus-size.
02:44Beautiful, healthy women.
02:46Plus-size is considered size 16 in America.
02:49I go between a size 6 and an 8.
02:52Schumer mag put me in their plus-size-only issue without asking or letting me know, and
02:56it doesn't feel right to me.
02:57Young girls seeing my body type thinking that is plus-size?
03:01But a year earlier, Schumer proudly announced at the Glamour Women of the Year Awards,
03:04I'm probably like 160 pounds right now, and I can catch a d---- whenever I want.
03:09Like that's the truth."
03:11Ashley Graham called out her hypocrisy in a Cosmopolitan interview.
03:15Quote,
03:16I can see both sides, but Amy talks about being a big girl in the industry.
03:20You thrive on being a big girl, but when you're grouped in with us, you're not happy
03:24about it?
03:25That, to me, felt like a double standard."
03:27End quote.
03:28She ripped off an audience
03:30In early November 2015, Schumer came under fire for ripping off an audience who paid
03:35good money to see her do stand-up in Maine.
03:37According to the New York Daily News, Schumer said she performed 47 minutes instead of an
03:42hour because of a scheduling mishap, claiming that the stage manager told her she was only
03:46supposed to be on stage for 45 minutes.
03:49But some attendees claimed she performed for less than 35 minutes and seemed to phone in
03:53the performance.
03:54When asked why she didn't go longer by Portland's NBC news station, Schumer blamed it on her
03:59inexperience with performing in arenas.
04:01Quote,
04:02I didn't know I could do that.
04:04It was a rookie mistake.
04:06Rookie mistake or not, that crowd's still waiting for their refunds.
04:10She harasses male celebrities
04:12Schumer has gushed about following around actor Bradley Cooper and screaming his name
04:16on red carpets.
04:17Whenever I see him, I've seen him on a couple things, I always harass him.
04:20I'm just like, rah!
04:21To make my sister laugh, I shout his name."
04:23But if the gender roles were reversed, that wouldn't be considered cute.
04:27It would be creepy.
04:28In GQ's Men of the Year 2015 issue, she detailed her intimate fantasies about Cooper, NFL quarterback
04:35Tom Brady, President Barack Obama, and many more.
04:38Again, if a guy did the same about, say, Glamour's Women of the Year, that would be viewed as
04:43sexist and horrifying.
04:45Because it is.
04:46Let's not forget Jim Carrey's love confession to Emma Stone.
04:49And if I were a lot younger, I would marry you, and we would have chubby little freckle-faced
04:59kids."
05:00Even if it was a joke, that's probably the creepiest thing you've seen all day.
05:04And that's not too different from what Amy's been doing to Cooper.
05:07Joke thief?
05:08In January 2016, several comedians accused Schumer of lifting their material.
05:13Kathleen Madigan said one of her jokes was worked into a sketch on Inside Amy Schumer.
05:18"...but Oprah, you're a billionaire.
05:20You have enough money to pay a man to stand there and literally slap s— out of your
05:25hand before you put it in your mouth."
05:27What's that?
05:29It's a new weight loss program that takes decision-making out of the equation.
05:33How does it work?
05:34First, one of Slap Chef's world-class chefs makes you one of their signature dishes.
05:38Then, before you can say Slap Chef, they knock it out of your stupid mouth.
05:44Schumer's own stand-up allegedly contained a word-for-word joke first told by Wendy Liebman.
05:50"...and maybe, maybe I'm old-fashioned, but I like it when the guy pays for sex.
05:56I mean that."
05:57"...I think the guy should always pay on the first date for sex."
06:02Those are just two of the comics who spoke up.
06:05Fan-made videos showed more side-by-side comparisons of Schumer's material matching other comics,
06:10including Patrice O'Neal, John Mulaney, and Marc Maron, as well as similar sketches from
06:14Inside Amy Schumer appearing previously on MADtv.
06:18Madigan and Liebman later backtracked on their accusations.
06:21Schumer, meanwhile, chalked the criticism up to jealousy.
06:25"...this is what happens, people like build people up and then they like to rip them down
06:29when they're like experiencing some success."
