00:00The other introductory press conference yesterday in Las Vegas.
00:04Unlike the prior three we have already spoken about, not a rookie head coach,
00:08not a first time head coach, year number 19 in the National Football League
00:13as the head man about to begin for the 73 year old Pete Carroll.
00:17Introduced yesterday in Las Vegas alongside the Raiders new general manager,
00:22John Spytek.
00:23And Scott, you can talk about what Pete Carroll is going to bring to Las Vegas.
00:28But of course, it is a very familiar face and could be comforting for
00:33Raiders fans to know, hey, we've got this guy in here to at least try to provide
00:37a stable foundation.
00:39Do you think Pete Carroll will be able to have that success out in Sin City?
00:45I don't think so.
00:46I said earlier, Ben, I thought he would have been perfect for Dallas.
00:49Win now team, two, three year window, get the most out of our players,
00:54Super Bowl experience like McCarthy.
00:56But that to me was the ideal spot.
00:59You could sell Pete Carroll to the Dallas Cowboys.
01:02I think that would have been a guy that the Cowboy fan would have been excited
01:05about.
01:06Going to the Raiders, you don't have a running back.
01:09You don't have a wide receiver.
01:10You don't have a quarterback.
01:11You don't have a top five pick in the NFL draft.
01:14You're years away.
01:16And I've heard people say, well, it brings the stability to the Raiders, right?
01:20You don't want stability in the NFL.
01:22You want to bottom out.
01:24The last thing you want to do is be eight and nine or nine and eight.
01:28You're drafted in 15th.
01:29You can't get yourself a quarterback.
01:31You're stuck in no man's land.
01:33So take a risk on an offensive coordinator like a Cone or
01:40like a Ben Johnson, which I'm sure they made a run for.
01:43But give me the guy that's going to be here for the next five, six,
01:46seven years that's really going to build versus a guy that,
01:50Pete doesn't want to be there five, six years.
01:52He's 73, like you said, right?
01:53He wants to win now.
01:54So that was going to take shortcuts to win.
01:58Are they going to bring in Sam Darnold?
02:00This to me has got Sam Darnold written all over it.
02:03To me, it's like I want to win now.
02:05So who's the best quarterback out there?
02:07It's probably Darnold that's going to be a free agent.
02:09And I'm not a big Sam Darnold fan.
02:11But I think this has got, out of all of them, I think to me, this is the worst one.
02:15And I think Pete Carroll was one of the best candidates for other teams.
02:19But I just don't see how that's going to happen.
02:21And a division in which you've got Candace in that's not going anywhere.
02:24Chargers aren't going anywhere.
02:26And Denver, you're not really sure.
02:28Vodick's really going to progress to be a really, really good quarterback.
02:31I don't know.
02:31That's a tough division.
02:33You're not going to make Kayway in that division in a year or two.
02:36So it just doesn't make sense.
02:38Because again, you don't want to be nine and eight in the NFL.
02:41You want to go from the Redskins to the Redskins this year.
02:44You want to go, if possible, from Houston two years ago to Houston now.
02:49Yeah.
02:50And that's really where the Raiders have been in the last 22 seasons
02:54since a Super Bowl appearance in 2002.
02:57Just two wins, or two years of a winning record, two playoff appearances.
03:02Do I believe Pete Carroll, even in how great he has been in various stops
03:07throughout the entirety of his football life,
03:09is going to bring the Raiders to the postseason in 2025?
03:14No.
03:15So it's not exactly building a program and a culture like Pete did,
03:19or could do, collegiately in the National Football League
03:23when there's a new head coach.
03:25It's a completely different scenario.
03:27But he'll be chomping gum on the sidelines very, very soon.
