00:00We're getting a closer look at Ryan Coogler's new drama Sinners, starring Michael B. Jordan,
00:11and it's more than just a vampire film.
00:13The Warner Brothers movie stars the frequent Coogler collaborator and hits theaters April
00:1818th.
00:19And while many speculated it was a period vampire piece, Coogler is saying it's way
00:23more than that.
00:24At a virtual press conference for the movie's trailer launch, Coogler, whose previous two
00:27outings were the two Black Panther films, teased that although vampires were definitely
00:32in the film, the movie has a lot more going on.
00:34The film is very genre fluid.
00:36It switches in and out of a lot of different genres.
00:38Yes, vampires are an element, but it's not the only supernatural element in the movie.
00:43Coogler also noted that the movie was about American music and an exploration of blues
00:47music and culture.
00:49Coogler called it his most personal film to date.
00:52It allowed him to explore his ancestral Mississippi family history, talk to his nearly 100-year-old
00:57grandmother, and pay tribute to his uncle, with whom he was close to, and who passed
01:01away while he was in post-production on 2015's Creed.
01:05Coogler summed up Sinners this way.
01:07It's a love letter to the experience of watching an exhilarating movie in a packed house full
01:10of strangers, not knowing what's going to happen next.
01:14Stay.
01:15It's you?
01:16Of course it's me.
01:17Open the door.
