Actor and self-proclaimed 'pothole campaigner' Nigel Havers has called on Mayor of London Sadiq Khan to fix potholes across the capital. The Chariots of Fire actor said he's "had enough of these huge craters" and questioned where money paid for road tax goes, complaining that not enough was being done for motorists. Havers directly called on the mayor to fix the potholes and said "it's almost as if the mayor absolutely hates the motorcars". As bad weather batters Britain's roads there are warnings potholes will worsen, whilst councils clash with central government over millions of pounds withheld from highways budgets.

00:00I am indeed a pothole campaigner, and like everybody else, I've had enough of these huge craters that we have to avoid.
00:07Now, I'm on two wheels in London, which makes it even more dangerous.
00:10But I know cars can be seriously damaged by going through potholes.
00:14Why don't they mend them? That's all I'm asking.
00:17Where is the money going? You know, you pay so much for a road tax, a huge amount, it goes up and up.
00:23But where does that money go? It doesn't go into mending potholes.
00:26I did have an experience in Canada, and also I had a lovely car that was a classic car,
00:31and it apparently broke it in two going over a pothole, so I'm very upset about that.
00:37But it's not just the potholes, isn't it? It's the bicycles on the pavement,
00:42it's the inability to look after people in a normal way.
00:46What is the Mayor of London doing? Mr Sadiq Khan, are you listening? Do something about it!
00:51Here's a bit of advice for the people, the government.
00:54If you mend a pothole too long, it's going to cost you twice as much to mend it.
00:57So mend it straight away. It'll save you money in the long run.
01:01It's almost as if the government, and indeed the Mayor of London, Mr Sadiq Khan,
01:05absolutely hates the motorcars. He'll do anything in his power to make our lives uncomfortable.
01:11He's got to stop that. Of course there are cars in London.
01:14There are always going to be cars in London. Accept it.
01:16But don't just be sort of rude to us. Fix the potholes, Mr Mayor. Fix them!
