हिंदू धर्म में मौनी अमावस्या का काफी महत्व माना गया है। इस दिन जातक को गंगा स्नान और दान करने विशेष रूप से कहा गया है। धार्मिक मान्यता है कि ऐसे करने से श्रीहरि प्रसन्न होते हैं और आशीर्वाद देते हैं। इस बार यह तिथि 29 जनवरी को पड़ रही है। साथ ही कहा गया कि इस दिन पितृ धरती पर आते हैं तो उनकी आत्मा की शांति के लिए तर्पण, पिंडदान और श्राद्ध करना चाहिए। मौनी अमावस्या के दिन गृहस्थ लोग और साधु-संन्यासी व्रत और पूजन करते हैं। साथ ही कथा भी कहते व सुनते हैं। माना जाता है कि मौनी अमावस्या की कथा सुनने से व्रत की पूर्णता और पुण्य की प्राप्ति होती है।

It is a religious belief that doing so pleases Lord Hari and blesses. This time this date is falling on 29 January. It is also said that if ancestors come to earth on this day, then Tarpan, Pinddaan and Shradh should be performed for the peace of their souls. On the day of Mauni Amavasya, householders and sages-sanyasis observe fast and worship. They also tell and listen to the story. It is believed that listening to the story of Mauni Amavasya completes the fast and leads to attainment of virtue.
