00:00The Agriculture Department of a company has confirmed that it will sample the case of violation of the law against smugglers and hoarders of agricultural products.
00:10Alan Francisco of PTV Manila has the details of the country's news.
00:16The Department of Agriculture will now sample after violating the Anti-Agricultural Economic Sabotage or Republic Act No. 12022.
00:27The purpose of this law is to impose a heavier punishment against smugglers and hoarders of agricultural food products in the country, including the cartel.
00:38In the program Mike Abilive, Agriculture Assistant Secretary Spokesperson Arnel De Mesa said that although it cannot be announced for now,
00:47but they have already baptized the name of the company.
00:51We will also announce it and our President will be prosecuted for smuggling, profiteering, and hoarding.
01:00The proposed law is just one of the steps of the government to ensure food security or enough food for the Filipinos.
01:09Aside from this law, there is also Republic Act No. 12078 or the law that amends the Rice Tarification Law.
01:18It states that the Department of Agriculture has the power to declare a food security emergency on rice due to a lack of supply or an extraordinary increase in its price.
01:30In terms of supply, we have no problem. Our supply is good. Although the local production is decreasing, we have a lot of imported rice.
01:38When it comes to price, we know that our government and our President have made a lot of interventions.
01:47But despite this, there are still some who are increasing the price in wholesale and retail.
01:56That's why the National Price Coordinating Council recommended to the DA that there should be a food security emergency to lower the price of rice.
02:06Secondly, the stocks of the NFA should be released so that it can be bought again soon.
02:14And the rice that it has can also enter the market.
02:20Meanwhile, another thing that the government is doing according to ASEC-Demesa is to implement the maximum suggested retail price for imported rice.
02:30For now, this is only for Metro Manila. But once they have secured the process, there will also be MSRP for other types of rice and outside the National Capital Region.
02:42This is for imported premium rice. This is 5% broken.
02:50This started when we announced last week at PHP 58.
02:55We expect that it will remain at PHP 550 or lower.
03:01PHP 550 per metric tons is the 5% imported rice.
03:06It can still go down to PHP 49 as announced by Secretary Kiko Chu, Laurel Junior.
03:14We will have a two-week regular periodic review.
03:20According to the calculation, it can still go down to PHP 49.
03:25From BTV Manila, Allan Francisco, Balitang Pambansa.
