Taiwan's government has censured a university that failed to investigate reports of sexual harassment for 16 years.
Transcript
00:00At this university in southern Taiwan, five students had accused an associate professor
00:06of sexual harassment, starting in 2007.
00:10But the teachers they told failed to report or investigate the case.
00:15And now, years later, the government's supervisory branch, the Control Yuan, has censured national
00:22Zhonggong University for their slow response.
00:40The university says its security department only received reports of sexual harassment
00:46in 2023, and then found the allegations to be true.
00:51It suspended the associate professor, whose surname is Jian, for three years.
01:11The Control Yuan has urged Taiwan's education ministry to oversee the university's handling
01:17of gender equality issues to make sure students are protected.
01:22The ministry has now told national Zhonggong University to consider dismissing the man
01:27in question, rather than the current three-year suspension.
