Israeli soldiers discharged warning shots across southern Lebanon as the deadline for their withdrawal passed.

Thousands have been trying to return to their homes in defiance of Israeli military orders. Jonathan Regev reports from Tel Aviv.

The Lebanese health ministry says 22 people have been killed and another 124 were wounded by Israeli fire in southern Lebanon since this morning.

IDF said that it ‘remains deployed in southern Lebanon, continues to operate in accordance with the ceasefire understandings between Israel and Lebanon, and is monitoring Hezbollah's attempts to return to southern Lebanon. The IDF will operate against any threat posed to IDF troops and the State of Israel.’

00:00Yes, a fragile and sensitive ceasefire deal in the south and the same issue goes for the
00:05north.
00:06The ceasefire with Hezbollah expired at 4 a.m. local time, that's 13 hours ago and according
00:12to Hezbollah and according to the Lebanese government as well.
00:16By this time the Israeli forces should have been gone and the residents should have been
00:20allowed to go back to their villages and this is what these residents are trying to do.
00:26The Israeli army and Israel in general and backed by the United States on this issue
00:30we have to say, backed by the Trump administration, Israel claims that the Lebanese army has not
00:35been deployed as it should have been according to this agreement and as long as that does
00:39not happen the Israeli army will remain there.
00:43Israel says that the agreement states that the Lebanese army will be deployed all along
00:49southern Lebanon, south of the Litani River and every Hezbollah operative and Hezbollah
00:54infrastructure and Hezbollah ammunition will be taken north and away from the Israeli
00:58border.
00:59That according to Israel has not happened and that is why the IDF is for the moment
01:04not withdrawing its forces south into Israel.
01:08Once again it is important to stress that the Trump administration is backing Israel
01:13on this, not for a long term but for some short stay, an additional short stay of the
01:19Israeli forces in Lebanon but the residents are already coming back, clashing with the
01:24Israeli forces.
01:26At the moment we are hearing from the Lebanese Ministry of Health of some 15 people killed
01:30already in clashes with the Israeli forces and just like in Gaza if this issue is not
01:36solved by the United States and France in this case, US being Israel's closest ally
01:41and France being Lebanon's closest ally, if they do not solve this then we might see more
01:46bloodshed in the days to come.
