IANS Exclusive: Karnataka: Dr. Vijayalakshmi Deshmane, a cancer specialist from Kalaburagi who provides free treatment to poor cancer patients, has been announced as a recipient of the Padma Shri award. Indumati Deshmane, the sister of Padma Shri awardee Vijayalakshmi Deshmane, says, My sister received one of the most prestigious awards, the Padma Shri, today, and our family is very happy. When I saw her name on TV yesterday at 7 o'clock, I was amazed and wondered, 'Yes, that is my sister!' At that moment, I didn’t know how to thank all the people behind this recognition. I thank our Prime Minister and our President Madam. It is a great honor that my sister has received such a prestigious award. She deserves it because she is dedicated to society.
